for some odd reason people hate the Kin phones. However, when you think about these recently relaunched FEATURE phones. They are amazing.
8mp camera with 720p video capture. WIFI!! and a basic web browser THAT CAN DO YOUTUBE videos. Since data is not required, its perfect for a teen like me. I have had this phone for less than a week and already I have done some nice HD snowboarding videos and pictures. And I have used the webbrowser at least two times a day for facebook, weather, youtube, etc. I highly reccomend this phone to anyone who wants an HD Picture and video phone as well as wifi with out a data plan.

Uh. So Engadget says that the KINs are returning...

Well, that was an interesting couple of months!
Looks like Microsoft is killing the KIN as a standalone product line and that it'll rolled into Windows Phone 7. Which is really what should have happened in the first place, it's tough to justify Microsoft doing two different mobile platforms.

I guess this is what I get for being adventurous with my device choice, but here i am about a month and a week out and i am completely out of "like"…
for my KinTwo. done, kaput, over it. a few days ago I got a message informing me of an Exchange update, so i hit "yes" and it updated and promptly removed all of my exchange contacts, and shut off syncing. for 3 days i couldn't get anything to sync, i've gone thru all the troubleshooting with VZW techs 3 times now, i finally got contacts in by exporting my gmail contacts to Live, but that's not a long term solution i refuse to switch email accounts simply because...

Little known option. The KIN is available with a 1-year contract. Even with a 1-year contract it's still eligible for the mail-in rebates.
This brings the total cost of ownership of the phone way, way down.

Just a warning to those of you planning to get a KIN, these devices suffer from the same problem as the Zune HD as far as Wi-Fi goes.
They do not support Enterprise connections, meaning lots of university/corporate-based users are SOL. Hopefully support for those networks is added eventually, but based on the fact that the Zune HD hasn't seen an update for them, I doubt it. On another note, if WP7 has this problem, I will be PISSED.

I know it's been less than a week than launch, but has anyone spotted a KIN ONE or TWO in the wild yet?
I'm always curious to see how long it takes after a new phone is released before I see someone using one in public. Haven't seen anyone using an HTC Incredible yet, which surprises me a bit, but again, it hasn't been too long since it went on sale.

you know at first i marked both the kin one and kin two as dislike and didnt have them on my list but now that i come back and look at the two from a different…
angle i have added it to my want list and have "liked" it. this is really not designed to be a smartphone and i get why these devices are designed so differently (i like the two's hardware design a little bit now but the data plan is still bad). to sum up the two is a viable device while the one is way too small and would have to have a pre sized screen to work

So I bought the Kin Two, and I'm not trying to steal Peter's thunder, but seems like there were lots of questions people had about it, so ask away.
I have every intention of writing a review once i've had this thing for about a week. but if you were like me, you want every morsel of info before you make the purchase. and for reference i owned an iphone for just about 3 years, switched to verizon for the Incredible, was wholy disappointed by the battery life, had no desitre for any of the other phones and decided i'd give this new "social phone" a whirl. so far i am happy with it, i certainly made some compromises getting...

Wow, 30 buck a month data plan. KIN might have been partly feasible with a 10-15 dollar data plan, but 30?
A Pre Plus is cheaper than the KIN, you get your social networking right there, plus a smartphone! Looks like the KIN is dead, before it ships.
Given the somewhat abysmal reviews they are getting, would you use a KIN as your primary cell phone if they were offered free, and with a $60 per month plan…
that included 500 minutes of talk and unlimited texting and unlimited web? Or is the software too much of a disappointment?

Got a KIN ONE and KIN TWO yesterday, any questions? Post them below and I'll do my best to answer them.

DOA thanks to Verizon. $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with the standard Verizon smartphone plan at $29.99 a month.
Why would anyone pay a smartphone price and data plan for a device that isn't a full-featured smartphone? If they had been halved this would be a killer. But at this price, you would just choose an iPhone or a Droid if you wanted to stick with Verizon.

As part of the Microsoft team that created KIN, it was incredibily exciting to finally show our new phones to world last week.
We've received a lot of positive feedback about the SPOT, LOOP, CAMERA and STUDIO. But we know that people still have a lot of questions. I'm going to be on GDGT off and on throughout the day. What do you want to know?

I think (as much as I hate Google calling their Android OS phones as Superphones; I love them as smartphones) we really ought to call this as Socialphones since…
this really is centered as one. I know that all Smartphones can do what this can do but smartphones is getting over used in many confusing ways.

So many people are evaluating the KIN devices as if they're in the same league as the iPhone, WP7, or the luxury Android devices. No apps! Small screen!
It's another mobile OS! The difference is that Microsoft was pretty clear that these were meant to be along the lines the feature phones that most teenagers have, except that it integrates with all of their social interactions online. They look nice, have a slick interface, and seem pretty simple to use. Can it be that Microsoft is giving its users a chance to choose their own experiences, so that they don't have to pay for a smartphone with more functionality than they'll ever...
