They live at opposite ends of the apartment - one connected to the modem, the other repeating and bridging to my office PC. The bridge repeater brings the wifi network signal up to full blast, no matter where in the apartment I am. All the hype surrounding dd-wrt on the WRT54G series is absolutely warranted. Upgrade yours ASAP.

This little guy was the best router ive had so far. The first one i had i loaded with some janky custom firmware and it went to hell.
The next one i just left alone and still runs GREAT.

I've had a few of these. They seem to work great for a few years, then get flakey.
Just this week my WRT54GS started losing internet connectivity about once a day. I'd plug my DSL model into a PC and it would work fine. The router would connect PCs, but not pass the internet. I'd reset and put all my settings back in and it would work for another day before dying again. Does anyone know know what dies in these things?

What are you doing with your WRT54G
okay so obviously alot of folks have hacked their WRT54G, What are you doing with your box ? I personally have given mine to my brother... it's running as a bridge allowing him to stomp all over kids in Gears2 on Xbox Live.

Have a WRT54GL, but want 802.11n...
I've been using a WRT54GL for as long as I can remember. Never had any issues with it at all. It's serving a windows desktop, 2 mac laptops, an iPhone, a wii, a xbox 360 and a blu-ray player. No issues. But I want to upgrade to a dual band g/n router so my laptop can get better speed. Any recommendations?

Tunnel to SSH Server with WRT54GL+DD-WRT?
I've got DD-WRT v24-sp1 installed on my WRT54GL. Can anyone tell me if its possible to connect to an SSH server with this? What I want to do is route all traffic via an SSH server I have access to. I can do it by running a client on each PC (Putty), but is it possible without running a PC client? Does DD-WRT have an SSH client built in that can do this? I tried going into the command window and typing "ssh -y my_login@my_server_ip my_password" but I got some error about the...

9.x rating?
I'm not posting this to just bitch, but have that many people had good luck with this router? I read the post in the support discussions about needing to reset the router, which seems to be a common issue. I own a V6 of this router and have experienced this issue very frequently even after putting DD-WRT micro on it. My biggest complaint is under heavy load (one or two well seeded torrents), the unit will reset on its own or require a manual restart every five minutes. So with this problem,...

Using it as a bridge
I have an apple Time Capsule as my primary router and I have a wrt54G v.4 with DD-WRT loaded that I would like to use as a bridge for my xbox media center. What's the best way to set this up?

who doesn't have one?
at this point who doesn't have or had one of these routers or at least knows someone with one? i have to say this has got to be the most popular wifi router.
Why do you hack it?
What are the main things you get from installing hacked firmware that you don't get in the stock product? I don't want the feature list. I want to know what you *really* use.

What has a longer life?
A Linksys WRT54G or a red shirt guy who foolishly accompanies Kirk, Spock, and Scotty down to an unfamiliar planet? I love the customizability and options that the WRT54G offers, but the couple that I have used have had very short lives. Is my experience unusual?

Different versions of this router
Seems like there are so many different versions of this specific router...does anyone know where I can find a guide to differentiate between the different types?
DDWRT or Tomato
Lets get a good debate going between the 2 most popular firmware mods for these routers. Pros? Cons? Crazy things you have done with these firmware versions? *ding ding*

Custom firmware
I bought a wrt54GL to supplement my aging wrt54g. Not enough ethernet ports, and decided to put a wired directional antenna 30 yards away, pointing at a poolhouse 50 yards away from the point of origin. I am running tomato firmware on both, with amplification turned up. Any other suggestions for a better custom firmware, or a good wireless n router with external antennas, capable of running custom firmware.
