We purchased a handful of unlocked LG Shines from Tanga prior to a trip to the UK, and used these with no problems during our two-week stay.
While I'm not normally a fan of phones without separate keys, I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of the number pad. It has a built-in camera that also records video, and had perfectly clear call quality.
One feature we found especially helpful during traveling was LG's built-in selection of distinctive and (borderline obnoxiously) cheerful tones. Not only did this help us easily distinguish calls to our phones from the generic trills of the people around us, but it gave us enough options to make it obvious whose phone was receiving a call and from whom.
If you can tolerate the pseudo-Miami Sound Machine stylings, I highly recommend their "Good Morning" song as the default alarm clock sound.
