I am just curious as to the evolution of users' cell phones over time. I realize this may date some people on the discussion, but it should be interesting to see. My cell phone history is this: Starting in 2004 Motorola T720 (1 year) Nokia 6101 (1 year) Sony Ericsson K790a (3 years) Sony Ericsson X10 and BlackBerry Bold 9700 (16 months of dual phones) BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 (1 month before unfortunate water damage) Sony Ericsson X10 (for another 5 months) BlackBerry 9790 (1.5 months and counting) My ...

Mobile World Congress 2012 starts in Barcelona on Monday, but we've already seen plenty of announcements and leaks regarding some of the phones (and tablets) expected to be shown off. Check out the list below for what we know about, let us know what you're excited about, and stay tuned to gdgt for the latest product releases! Acer
The US Copyright Office in 2010, stated Jailbreaking iOS devices is legal. Now this exemption is running out. I would like to hear what you think about rooting or jailbreaking. I'm doing some research of my own and want any information, whether you oppose Jailbreaking/Rooting or you're in favor, I want to know. Please be as detailed as possible when replying, so that your comment is not misconstrued.
Actually, the problem isn't so much about the site as it is about how different devices are due to what carrier they are on and what country they are being sold in. Take the Galaxy S for example. That was eventually split into four gadget pages (5 if you include the original) based on the variations of each carrier. Each phone was very much different in terms of hardware design although they had pretty much the same specs and very similar software. On the contrary, the problem I've...

I don't do too many phone calls, maybe 300 odd texts a month max, and don't know about the data since haven't had a smart phone yet. What would be a good plan to go for. Also is it advisable to get an unlocked phone and get a prepaid plan over the long term (upfront phone cost is not an issue). I looked at the on the go plans at t-mobile, 100 usd for 1000 mins for the year with 1.49 for the web pass but this had a very expensive text component. Could a google voice number be used...
My budget is around or under $200 and display size would be around 20"- 24" (larger is better, but a higher quality display is more important). Currently, LED and 1080p are on my must have list while 3D is something I do not want. There are also other technologies such as IPS and HMDI that would improve my experience so here are my questions - Which technologies will be worth getting to "future-proof"? and What brands provide the best monitors and customer service (warranty,...

With holiday shopping in full swing I am looking into a blu ray player as a gift. Looks like in general they have come down considerably in price (and will continue with 3D players slowly coming out), but IMO a quality blu ray player should have netflix enabled and it should be able to connect via wifi. Looking through the list of players fairly quickly it seemed that so far only the LG BD 570 catches my eye as being the most reasonably priced. I am also assuming that, like DVD player, all blu...

I don't really think there is any time when it's actually worked 100% properly, and all I basically use is texting, phone, and camera. Don't even use the browser. It randomly resets itself, and I've done all 11 software updates. Sometimes it fails to vibrate or ring, reception is meh to awful. Sound quality is good though.
I'm interested to see what the overall feeling is in 2012 in regards to this. I have been a simultaneous Android and Blackberry/WP7 user over the years and I always prided myself in my Android loyalty and scoffed at those who claimed the open-ness of Google's OS hampered the overall user experience. Last month I received my first iPhone and I think I'm starting to pull a 180. I believe at this point, especially after experiencing iOS firsthand, Google should really consider pulling in the reigns...

It is time for me to upgrade my smartphone. I have a Palm Pre Plus. I really like WebOs. I live in a rural area, but visit areas that have 4g. Are 4g phones more fast in areas that have only 1g or 3g service. I will stay with Verizon. Suggestions, please. I have a Kindle Fire, so am fam. with that form of Android.
I'm building a computer for a local business I know but I'm not sure whether i should go for the Corsair CX430 which I actually have - or the CX500.
Here are the specs: Gigabyte H61M-S2-B3 Intel Core i3 2100 2 x 2GB of 1333Mhz RAM Western digital Caviar Blue 1TB 7200rpm - SATA 2 and a LG dvd drive - SATA 2
What do you guys think? Is 430 watts enough or should I go for 500??
My wife is looking into buying a Macbook Air 13", but one of the key concerns is the lack of disc drive. I don't think it's a big concern, but I think having access to a disc could be important. Buying the Apple Superdrive is $80, so that's somewhat pricey considering it doesn't play blu rays, but I don't know how much better it is than the $45 LG external player I saw in this week's Best Buy weekly ad. I have been trying to find a decent blu ray external drive on ebay/amazon but it seems that...

When does an appliance become a gadget? With things like refrigerators and washing machines coming with more screens and features than some MP3 players, buying an appliance now is a lot like shopping for a gadget. Which brings me to my current predicament- I don't have a toaster. I like toast. I really like toast. Those $10 toasters from Walmart just don't cut it. For a while I had one with a motorized tray that raised and lowered the bread- it was fun but it didn't toast adequately. I'm hoping...
I realise sony just announced a ps3 screen but I'd like something a tad bigger than 24inches. Looking for around 32-46". I will be gaming on it but I'm a big film buff so the better the TV for that the better. As for budget I'd rather keep it under £1000. Any suggestions gdgteers? What make should I look out for and what features?
Would like to know which manufacturer is not nerfing cool features and not installing bloatware so that I can browse that manufacturers products and only consider specs. If there is no saint then just opinion on the least obnoxious will be great. No #apple or #WP7.
When I bought my TV they threw in a free LG BD550. I use it for streaming content from Netflix and a few other apps. I have yet to buy a Blu Ray movie for it though. Is the picture worth the higher price?
I figured that given the unveiling of the iPad 2 earlier this week, last week's launch of the Motorola Xoom, and the introduction earlier this year of the T-Mobile G-Slate, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, BlackBerry PlayBook, and HP TouchPad (among others!) that a lot of you might be contemplating a purchase. Personally I'm not sure what my next tablet will be yet. I've been using the Motorola Xoom for the past week, and while Honeycomb is a little rough around the edges and the...

I recently purchased new home and car chargers in prep for a tablets (ipad2 and honeycomb). I bought them all to support 2amp charging of either apple iPad2 or other. Just noticed the Xoom requires use of a non-standard wall charger, so hoping the G-Slate uses microUSB or at a min provides a USB cable that I can plug into my other chargers in my car and home.
