At work I use one of these for software development (Visual Studio 2005/2008 under Vista Business x64) and it compiles code extremely fast. I have it with 2 10Krpm SATA drives in a RAID 0 as the system root and with 8GB of RAM, and opted for the Q6600. Everything else is stock. The RAM and hard drives were purchased separately so the overall cost of the machine was really reasonable compared to other vendors' workstation offerings.
