Conclusion: We're mixed

Lenovo has a long history of producing convertible laptop/tablets for business, and the Twist follows in that tradition, with a good keyboard and display, though its performance and battery life may disappoint road warriors. Laptop Mag calls the Twist's battery life "unacceptable," and adds that "we wouldn't recommend any ultraportable notebook that gets just four and a half hours of battery life and that goes double for a tablet." Engadget found that the non-SSD version of the Twist had performance issues, and that its battery life was the second-worst they'd seen on an Ultrabook. However, with its tried-and-true style, Engadget says the Twist "will still appeal to Lenovo loyalists, folks who trust ThinkPad's build quality and wouldn't be caught dead using any other keyboard."

The ThinkPad Twist has plenty going for it: a bright IPS display, a good port selection, an affordable price and an unrivaled typing experience...there are other Windows 8 convertibles with comfortable keyboards -- not to mention, sharper screens, faster performance and longer battery life.

Slightly less conservative-feeling than the average ThinkPad, the well-made ThinkPad Twist offers one of the better tablet modes from the first wave of Windows 8 convertibles.

Although the Lenovo ThinkPad Twist has its flaws, it does what it’s designed to do very well. That is, it’s a fantastic business-oriented tablet-Ultrabook hybrid, and it’s a great choice for a business user.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Twist (3347-4HU) ultrabook convertible is really a clamshell laptop convertible tablet like the ones that Lenovo has been making for the past half-dozen years. It's the natural evolution of the Tablet PC concept of the mid-2000s, in 2012 ultrabook form.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Twist is well designed, sturdy and a strong performer. It'll also last you a good while, racking up over three and a half hours of battery use under moderate conditions. It's just as happy acting as a powerful tablet as it is a laptop.

The snazzily named ThinkPad Twist S230U is a generally great little Windows 8 touch-enabled convertible Ultrabook in a tried and proven swivel form factor, surprisingly let down by minor build quality niggles and poor battery life.

We weren’t surprised to find that Lenovo’s new convertible is a good laptop. The company’s experience in this area has paid off with Microsoft’s move towards touchscreen devices. No other convertible on the market can match the value proposition of the Twist.
