Conclusion: We like it

The Lenovo IdeaPad U300S is sleek, light — and mostly average. Compared to other ultrabooks in its price range — and even some less expensive models — it's missing a few tricks, such as a backlit keyboard, SD card slot and Ethernet, all of which are available on the lower-priced HP Folio 13. In the U300S's favor: one of the best trackpads available on an ultrabook, a comfortable keyboard and built-in support for Intel Wireless Display, or WiDi, which allows you to wirelessly stream video or other content from your laptop to a compatible TV or other display. Those features may make it worth considering, if you don't need to connect it to a wired network, or type in the dark.

At...$1,095 and up, the IdeaPad U300s isn't the best value, but it is one of the better Ultrabooks we've seen. People comparing this side-by-side against other skinny laptops will note that it doesn't have a high-res display, backlit keyboard or memory card slot.

Lenovo's entry into the ultrabook arena, is as well-engineered as you'd expect, but it's not a knockout blow to its competitors.

Lenovo's stylish U300s Ultrabook is one of the best-looking Windows laptops we've seen and matches Apple's MacBook Air nearly spec for spec.

It's also the Ultrabook that many in our labs gravitated toward due to its luxuriously minimalist styling and superior input ergonomics. At least they did until they heard it cost $1595, a price tag that reflects the expense of the U300s's large (256GB) solid-state drive, or SSD.

The Lenovo IdeaPad U300s gets many things right, but not enough to beat the 13-inch MacBook Air. While it may not be as flashy, we like this Ultrabook's solid aluminum design, excellent performance, and nearly 7 hours of battery life.

The Lenovo U300s is a great Ultrabook that while lacking an SD card slot and backlit keyboard makes up for it with sturdy built quality, fast speeds, HDMI out, a water resistant keyboard, LoJack and more.
