Conclusion: Pass on it

At under $200, the Lenovo IdeaPad A1 might seem like a bargain, but you get what you pay for. This 7-inch tablet has a dull-looking display with limited viewing angles; sluggish performance; and an older version of the Android operating system. If you're looking for a 7-inch Android tablet, and have a limited budget, you may be better off with a Nook Tablet — or you can wait for the next round of tablets from Samsung, Asus, and others, some of which will sell for around $249.

The Lenovo A1 is a classic Android tablet, at an attractive price, but its subpar screen gives the competition an edge.

With both the Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet available for $50 less, the Lenovo Ideapad Tablet A1, with its middling performance and low-quality screen, is a tough sell.

It has specifications that while not mind-blowing, get the job done. It’s not going to deliver a full-blown experience like Apple’s iPad, but it’s perfect for those that want to check their email, play a game, or surf the web on a screen that’s larger than your typical smartphone.

While the IdeaPad A1 isn’t a horrible system, it also doesn’t do anything to set it apart from the growing crowd of other low end tablets – that and the fact that it is $50 more expensive than the more impressive Kindle Fire makes it a very hard sell.

The ideapad A1, is a really good entry level 7" Android Tablet. Nice size, nice features, good construction, etc. Have in mind that this is not an iPad. If you have that into account you'll be pleased with the money you're paying.

The Lenovo A1 was a good choice when I bought it a year ago--it was the only "name" brand tablet selling for under $200 at the time. It ran Android 2.3, which made it essentially an oversized phone. Sad to say, it's quite antiquidated less than a year later--the single core processor can barely...

When it was charging I could hear a high pitched sound - a sound in the 15 kHz area so I did not want to be around it when it was charging.
