My LaCie Rugged (Firewire) 500GB has served me faithfully for two years, until recently. I used it to store all my photos and graphic work. A few weeks ago, however, it died for no good reason. It sounds like the Armature in the hard drive itself has come apart, and I do not have a lab to fix it...

This is one of the better external HDDs. the speed is good and it has survived being dropped many times and being carried around in cargo pants etc.

The case by Lacie is ok. Yet I had problems with an internal 1TB samsung drive. Fades away after 30min usage. Unluckily this happened on a video job in Africa. I opened it but is is not the LACIE case and I won't open a hard drive... Hopefully this will not be warrenty-void at samsung...

I mean this is really a great product, I have had mine for almost 2 years now, and it still is reliable, I don't mean is the only one I use, but is really a very good Hard Drive

The Lacie Rugged hard disk comes with a lot of padding and protection which prevents it from getting damaged due to bumps and minor falls. The hard drive offer numerous connection options such as USB 2.0 FireWire 400 and 800 making it more flexible to use compared to the standard USB 2.0 drives....
