External hard drive or enclosure that allows direct transfer from USB/SD card
I am trying to find an external hard drive which will allow me to dump the contents of either an SD card or a USB stick (an SD card in a USB adapter in reality) directly onto it without the need for a computer. I have recently gotten a Canon EOS Rebel T3 and am taking many many pictures. Spin down, spin up all day long on my iMac OS X 10.6.1
My new 1Tb drive is plugged into my new iMac strictly for Time Machine backup duty. I have the power saving setting 'spin down hard drives when possible' turned on. Throughout the day when the iMac is on, this drive can be heard spinning up and down constantly. Is that OK for the drive? Or should I change the setting to not allow it to spin down?
