Rating
- Reception and call quality Does not get the same signal strength as an iPhone 4 does in the same area. In fact it is almost always 1-2 bars less.
- Display Really nice, but perhaps a bit too big. Display could be higher resolution.
- Battery life Have had no issues making it through a full day and then some on a single charge.
- Camera Its a camera on a smartphone. Nothing spectacular here.
- Ease of use No comments
- Design and form factor Once again, perhaps a bit on the large size. Lack of bezel along the sides is a big problem.
- Portability (size / weight) Despite size, I have yet to run across a pocket it doesn't fit comfortably inside. It's extreme slimness goes a long way in helping.
- Media support No comments
- Durability No comments
- Ecosystem (apps, accessories, etc.) WP7 still a little behind in this department. Would love to see more cross-platform app support, especially on the more popular iOS and Android titles.
Detailed review
Well, after 4 months with this phone I am thinking about dumping it for a Lumia 900. Let me start with the positives though.
The phone is gorgeous. That big screen makes a big difference for a variety of reasons, but for me, its the ease of use when using the keyboard that is the biggest draw. Those big keys are helpful for a guy like me who already has a serious issue with dexterity and prefers physical keyboards. The phone just feels nice in your hand too. Solid construction. WP7 is as snappy and responsive as usual on this phone as well.
However, I have had several struggles with it. Holding the phone in my right hand and trying to reach my thumb all the way across it to the "back" button is a pretty good stretch every time and not always successful. It feels like HTC put this button a bit further to the left than necessary. On top of that, the phone has virtually no bezel. So when I do try to stretch my thumb across, there is a really good chance that my palm is going to touch the edge of the screen and activate something. This also makes it almost impossible to hand the phone to someone else without some button being pressed by either party during the transition. Same goes for when I try to remove it from my pocket.
Those are mainly just minor inconveniences though. The real issue, unfortunately, isn't even HTC's fault. I have had major issues with the HSPA+ data strength and connectivity. After some research on the subject, it appears that AT&T chooses to limit this for the Titan. My wife has an iPhone 4 and her phone just gets better signal strength all the time. This is extremely disappointing since I actually really like this phone, but will probably end up having to trade it out for a new one sooner than expected because I live in an area where signal strength is already low to begin with, so any additional handicaps in this department make the phone essentially unusable at times.
