This is a bit old as it came out last week but HTC has said they are looking to make less devices to try and find that special device. Motorola has also said they are planning to do this. This just leaves Samsung as the only other major Android manufacture who goes overboard on Android releases. Overall do you think this is a smart move for not just HTC but handset manufactures in general? If you take Motorola over the past couple months they released the Razr, Razr MAXX and then the Razr...

The US Copyright Office in 2010, stated Jailbreaking iOS devices is legal. Now this exemption is running out. I would like to hear what you think about rooting or jailbreaking. I'm doing some research of my own and want any information, whether you oppose Jailbreaking/Rooting or you're in favor, I want to know. Please be as detailed as possible when replying, so that your comment is not misconstrued.
This is pretty big news for Google and hopefully one more step closer in providing a more unified UX/UI on Android. As it stands now when manufactures put out their phones they can force apps to use their customized skin. By requiring that they keep Holo intact on the phone this will allow for app developers to choose between the Holo theme or letting the skin take over when users launch their apps.
How do you feel about this and if you're an Android user are you excited for the change?
Will You Be Getting An Upgrade? It seems that most of Google's installed base is stuck on versions of Android more than a year old, and few will get updates on devices more than a year old, even if they are still under contract. "Blogger Michael Degusta revealed in October that 45 percent of Google's installed base of active Android users were stuck using software released in the middle of 2010. That's because handset makers like Samsung, HTC, Motorola and others do not make those updates...

I've just got the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It's stunning! I'm surprised just how great is it (certainly compared to my old HTC Desire Z). The specs don't, though lie the S2 is the better phone but, for me, it looks butt ugly (too square I think). It also doesn't have ICS yet (though I'm sure it's only a matter of time). But is the S2 the best phone out there overall? The specs suggest so, it beats everything bar iPhone 4S's screen resolution from what I can see. It's a shame it's a little boxy....

According to All Things D, Facebook has chosen HTC to manufacture their long rumored smart phone: "Code-named “Buffy,” after the television vampire slayer, the phone is planned to run on a modified version of Android that Facebook has tweaked heavily to deeply integrate its services, as well as to support HTML5 as a platform for applications, according to sources familiar with the project." It's interesting news if true. Do you think there is a market and strong desire for a Facebook phone?...

In a recent gdgt blog post around the time of the AMD event in Seattle there was a mention that another gdgt event is being planned for the Seattle area later this summer. Has a date been already set?
I say yes. I am not an iphone fan, I am too tied to my google products (gmail, google calendar, google voice) to move to the iphone. More than anything I am baffled about how little I have touched my laptop since getting my Thunderbolt.
Just got an email from my pals at HTC, they're instituting manufacturer-wide unlocked bootloaders! This is absolutely huge for the enthusiast community -- and if I may say, it's exactly how things should be. Quote from HTC CEO Peter Chou: "There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion,...

I haven't had any issues but I do recall my wife's Incredible having issues with text messages going to the wrong person. It was rare but after a couple times I went ahead and did a hard reset on her phone and she hasn't had the issue again. Still feels as fast as when I got it but I keep mine pretty clutter free. Only widget I use is the main clock/weather widget and I never use the animated background.
Since its arrival and discovery that it won't be supported on the Pre (minus), along with the long drawn out wait for the Pre3, I've decided to look elsewhere. 8 months have passed from the release of the EVO 4G, which I was thinking of buying while waiting for Palm's OS2.x release, but with that amount of time, I figure there would be another one on the horizon, hence, the EVO 3D. Though the 3D is an attractive feature, it wasn't much of a priority to have over a 1.2ghz dual...

I mean I know the N1 is obviously cheaper to buy because it's older. Some say that one is better because build is better, more durable because it's HTC and/or because of the metal. Others say Nexus S because it has a few better hardware upgrades, bigger and better screen. So I'm a bit at a crossroads. Of course, because of the carrier I'm with here in Canada, they are on an AWS frequency like T-Mobile there in the U.S. And with the ATT buyout of them, there's rumours...

1, unfortunately, but it still looks like a viable stop-gap for people who are on older generation phones but don't want 4g. Anyone else looking to pick this up?
I got one for 8 bucks that has a case, car and home charger, usb, and screen protector. For what I paid, it is a great kit. You can find similarly priced batteries as well (I got 2 2000mAh for $16). Just something to look at.
Actually, the problem isn't so much about the site as it is about how different devices are due to what carrier they are on and what country they are being sold in. Take the Galaxy S for example. That was eventually split into four gadget pages (5 if you include the original) based on the variations of each carrier. Each phone was very much different in terms of hardware design although they had pretty much the same specs and very similar software. On the contrary, the problem I've...

I have AT&T with a grandfathered unlimited data plan but prefer Verizon's performance. I am using an iphone 3gs. Itunes frakked my music collection and I hate it. I need Exchange support, though we do have a BES in house. Security is the most important. Had a BB curve a couple of years ago it was SOOOooo Slow and I had to pull the battery so often, I installed the battery puller app.
hi basicly i have brought a htc radar, but my sim is a microsim, i have a adapter, i was just wondering if i put the sim in the adapter and then into the radar, will i be able to remove it again? i know that in the 3gs, if you put a microsim +adapter in it gets stuck, but in like the galaxy s and others it slides in and out fine, i just wonerred before i risk breaking the phone to try, has anyone else got a htc radar and using a microsim? thanks :)
I really like that the dock comes w/ it. My current phone is an og droid and I went out and bought the car and media dock immediately and find them very useful. While I can see the silly-ness of the charm, I miss most calls while I am out of the apartment. I do think it is cute and kind of a good idea. Earbuds notoriously hurt my ears. So, those aren't much of a factor for me. 4G just came to my area, but all I hear about is the battery drainage, so I am not sure that the lack of 4G will be a...

I'm due for a new phone and I was immediately drawn to the Galaxy Nexus when it was announced, but the more I learn about the Rezound, the more appealing it sounds. What are your thoughts, gdgt?
I'm in the LA area so I'd still be waiting a bit to make use of the Holiday's LTE, but the larger screen and higher res is appealing to me, especially since my current phone is a Dell Streak.
My HTC Desire suffered from moisture damage. It does work -- mostly. I wonder if there is anything I can do for it. It should be already dry inside, I opened it and let it air. I thought cleaning rust somewhat would perhaps help it last longer. What do you think?
I have the European GSM HTC Touch Pro2. Understandably, I need(ed) my phone to be instantly available to me, rather than in some fancy-but-arduous case inside my pocket. So, the phone has gained some rather heavy (scuffs on plastic mostly) cosmetic damage. I would like to change the housing (y'know, the casing/shell (not some external one. the actual housing)). like changing the case of your computer) for this phone (despite it no longer being my primary phone), but the best seller I have come...

I have an original Droid Incredible that's having battery problems (not just poor battery life, the battery needs to be replaced). Instead of just replacing the battery I was going to buy an extended battery- the kind that comes with a custom back. I'm interested in performance and aesthetics- I'd prefer my phone not be absolutely hideous. I'm also curious as to how the camera works with an extended back, most of the Amazon reviews I've read said that the extra width brings the lens flush with...

Plugged my android to speakers, got the helmet icon but also a "earpiece" like icon, now I cannot put phone on speakers anymore, only thru speakers. How to stop this "earpiece" service? Android2.3, htc sense 3.0
This week began the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin— otherwise known as IFA to us English-speakers. It's not quite CES, but it is pretty important, and a lot of products will be announced this week, many to be released before the end of the year. Some of the more notable gadgets announced or exhibited at IFA this year: Cellphones:
I remember that the 'HTC Titan' had sounded super familiar...and here's why - http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?tit... 'Titan' is a pretty good name, however, so I don't blame them for wanting to use it again...and it's not likely that many people are still actively using a phone from 2007.
The specs on these devices are more in-line with products released in 2010. Considering that most new flagship Android phones are dual-core and have 1 GB of RAM, and that the iPhone 5 is likely to be on par with that, it's hard for me to get too excited about these new Windows Phone devices - they seem out of date before they've even arrived. I suppose it's debatable if one truly needs 1GB of RAM on a mobile phone...though I feel that having more is better; I doubt that future versions of any of...
I'm up for renewal soon on Verizon and looking to replace my HTC Incredible... which I Love. I really love Sense, not worried about the VZW bloatware, I have all along been wanting the newest HTC phone, the Vigor (or recently coined Droid Incredible HD by droid-life.com). (I know about the HTC Thunderbolt's problems and poor video, and am not dissuaded by those facts; I believe the Vigor to have solved those issues). I know all about the Bionic and Droid Charge... not interested in Motorola or...
