A brief summary of a review:
I was fed up with my iPhone, largely due to the App Store restrictions and the interminable lag between doing nothing and trying to do something. I've found the Hero's overall experience to be much better so far, not just in terms of speed, but also the level of integration that HTC have built into the experience with the Sense UI. Background application running is probably my favourite feature - seems a very mundane point to raise, but coming from the iPhone world it's a veritable miracle.
My only reservation about the device is that a will have to wait for upgrades to come through T-Mobile UK. I'm hoping that they decide to support the Android 2.0 update for the Hero (known as the G2 Touch on their network) once HTC have released it. It's got a bag of new features and fixes, and I'd be sorely disappointed if they decided not to release a carrier update. I'm sure there will be work-arounds though!
