Criteria Comments Rating
  • Reception and call quality Dropped calls, poor call quality for myself as well as my call recipients, poor service. awful!
  • Display It was a small but adequate display. so-so
  • Battery life I was pretty tyrannical about managing my battery life and could make it last a whole day, but this was without many apps running. poor
  • Camera No comments
  • Ease of use It was acceptably easy to use. so-so
  • Design and form factor It looked fine. Nothing stood out, but it wasn't ugly either. so-so
  • Portability (size / weight) The small size was nice, but it constrained the screen size and was a little on the thick side. good
  • Media support I listened to music on it, which worked well enough. so-so
  • Durability Okay, I have to give the Eris props here. It survived multiple falls and general abuse just fine. good
  • Ecosystem (apps, accessories, etc.) I was continually running out of space for apps, which was really frustrating. awful!
Detailed review
The Droid Eris was an underpowered underdog of a cellphone. It performed adequately, but never superbly. It had problems making phone calls in succession; the screen and keyboard were laggy and frustrating to use; it had terrible call quality. It lasted me two entire years, and I could rely on it to last a day's worth of battery life, but there were times when I needed it to make calls one after another, or to put someone on hold, or to not freeze, and it let me down at the most inopportune moments. I admittedly got this phone for free, so I was able to overlook its many downsides, but I'm glad to have finally upgraded to a worthwhile phone.
