Sync/Charge port accepts STANDARD mini USB!
details
Even though the phone comes with a proprietary cable, the port itself accepts boring old same-as-every-digital-camera-in-the-universe mini USB! Try it! I was really confused by this, but the world should know! (Verizon reps know this - they pointed me to a mini-USB car charger when I first bought the phone, but I didn't need it and later thought they must have made a mistake.) So make use of that drawer-full of mini-USB cables you have and don't go buying anything special!

Archaic service plan
details
With today's smarphones blurring the line between phones and mobile computers, isn't it becoming archaic to require users to purchase a data plan when all some people want to do is use the phone network for phone calls and use the built-in wifi for their data needs? Here's what I mean. Today I went into Verizon to get my wife a new phone. I thought it would be nice to get her the HTC Eris, but quickly discovered that it required a $30/mo. data plan. Now don't get me wrong, data... Read more →

Uploading Video To HTC Eris
details
I'm currently trying out the Verizon Droid Eris (thanks to Verizon's No Worry Guarantee) as a possible replacement for my iPhone. I travel quite a bit and use the media features of the iPhone constantly while I'm on the road. I'm enjoying most of the features of the Droid and am getting used to the Android operating system. However, I can't figure out how to sync or download videos to the phone (movies, tv shows, video podcast etc) Is the phone even capable of handling video...

Droid Email
details
I'm considering replacing my IPhone 3G with a Droid. I've got a few questions for those who have one: 1) I know I get GMail support built in, but can I get IMAP support for a second account (for my work email)? 2) Voice Dialing via Bluetooth is not supported, is that correct? My main uses of my phone are phone calls (suprise!), Twitter and email. I'm pretty happy with the IPhone and it's support for those applications, but think that Verizon would be a better provider for my...

Cheapest Plan?
details
So I was hoping... but I don't really think its possible, that I could get a plan where it would only be voice/texting and then just use all the Internet features on my home WiFi. And then not pay the huge monthly fee for web/email... No way I can do this right? There is no way I can afford that type of plan, but wanted it for the other smartphone features. Thanks...

Hero Getting Android 2.0
details
http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/28/htc-confirmed-t... That's the latest news this morning, from HTC's Twitter feed. They don't mention a timeline and beg we have patience, which makes me a little nervous to how long it'll actually take. But I assume this also means Android 2.0 eventually coming to the Eris. And I really think the Eris needs Android 2.0 to not be completely overshadowed by the Droid. The only thing keeping me from the... Read more →

Tooo Complicated?
details
As someone who loves gadgets but isn't exactly up to date on all the language and technology I am a little hesitant to commit to purchasing any of the latest phones being released for fear of being completely unable to work them! :) Wonder if a semi-layman will be able to get the best out of the Eris...or would it better off in the hands of someone who understands it inside and out?
