Detailed review
Being a extreme Google fan, I eagerly pre-ordered the G1 the day it was available. The excitement I had for the phone, and the potential of Android was through the roof. And for the most part, I haven't been too disappointed with my decision.
The G1 has been a great intro into Android, and after having used it for more than a year, I can't imagine myself leaving Android anytime soon. The G1 has mostly kept up with Android's evolution. And at the time of this writing, it is still ahead of some of the other Android handsets that have released so far. Sure the G1 may not have won any awards for it's "sexiness", but it has surely made up for it's outward appearance with software that continues to get more powerful.
But the G1 isn't perfect. The two main limitations that the G1 has had are processing power, and memory. After 14 months, several large updates, and 56 demanding apps later, my G1 is on its knees. At it's release, my G1 was able to handle most anything thrown at it. But now that Android and the apps have become more robust and demanding, the phone crawls. And it feels like every week now, I am having to delete things because of depleted memory.
So now I am looking to move on to the more powerful Android handsets that are beginning to emerge. Currently, I am looking at moving to the Nexus One. I don't regret ever buying the G1, and it will always hold a soft spot in my heart as my first Google Phone. I was there in the beginning. And I am proud.
