Detailed review
Honestly don't really have a sense of gadget style. That's a good thing because everyone else seems to agree that the G1 is sort of fugly. The thing is, though, that the hardware scored very will on my usability scale. Or it would if I were rigorous enough to actually score things and use scales. The keyboard really worked and showed no signs of wear over the year I used it as my primary phone. The hardware buttons were in the right places and did the right things. The trackball was very convenient. I really miss that on my Cliq.

On the downside, low memory, keyboard slide mechanism that sucked and wore out, otherwise weak-sauce electronics. If this were a car review I would talk about "fit and finish". The buttons were in the right places but they were cheaply made. (with the exception of the keys on the keyboard) Within weeks of purchase the slide mechanism was wearing grooves into the back of the phone. The plastic body fit poorly and let a lot of dirt and grime into the battery area. The plastic cover on the camera lense broke and fell off. Of course, the processor and graphics weren't exactly world class when it came out and now it is only farther behind.
