Yesterday's news that six senior Enyo engineers had left HP to join Google fell like Rome in the webOS community. Enyo is the open-source application framework that HP's team is building in preparation for the launch of Open webOS later this year. It's clear that the biggest winner in the fall of Palm was Google. Importantly, they snagged the father of webOS, Matias Duarte. Nokia and Microsoft scored some top Palm staffers as well. HP, as we all know, squandered the rest of the company's efforts....

I have been playing around with the developers preview of Windows 8 this week, and am pretty amazed at how Metro is so far behind features that have been in the mobile webOS for years. These differences are especially bad considering that Windows 8 is meant to be put on large screens, and full powered desktop processors. 1. Windows Management Multitasking is something that webOS has long been praised for, and to this day, I think its "card" paradigm is still by far the best multitasking UI of any...

I am one of the lucky few to get this device and I think it is a very good phone. I am a long time webOS user and this is what I wanted in a device for quite a long time now. I think its a shame that HP decided not to release this, even as a swan song or farewell product for the palm faithful. anyone else out there manage to pick one up? if so what are your thoughts on using it.
For those of you who are still following all of the webOS news, I thought I'd share what I know about how things have been going at HP since the announcement, and shed some light on a few projects that never came to be. Some of the information below comes from friends who work in the webOS Global Business Unit, née Palm. I've always been enthused about the potential of webOS, so with HP ditching all of its plans for webOS hardware, I was eager to pry some more details out of these people. Some...

I just used a Pre3 at a hands on event and it is everything I wanted in a webOS phone. Build quality is excellent, even more solid feeling than the veer and there is not a millimeter of wiggle between the slider pieces. It is just the smallest amount larger than the Pre2 making it about the perfect size for me. The keyboard is just that little bit more comfy to type on and the sharp lip of bygone Pre models has vanished. While the keys are not quite as clicky as the pixi's they are an...

The first reviews of HP's TouchPad tablet are in and if I were Jon Rubenstein I'd be worried. The TouchPad was one the most anticipated devices of the year, but there was a palpable sense of disappointment in most of the reviews I read. Several noted a number of issues with the device, including relatively poor battery life, surprisingly buggy software, a relatively paltry selection of apps, and, to top it all off, that it's actually heavier and bulkier than just about every other rival device....

It looks like a lot of the phones that were announced at CES have already come out or are coming out in the next few weeks. Maybe I am hopeful and HP will change their mind about the release date.
At this point, I'd have to say no. I really like the device, but I feel like it just played catch up with the devices we have out today. On top of that, this won't even be out till Summer -- by then we'll have the new iPhone, as well as a new line of Android and Windows Phone 7 devices that will be a step ahead of HP. What do you think?
