If your smartphone or tablet is at capacity and you don’t want to cull your media library to make room for more, the HP Pocket Playlist offers a slick way to carry and enjoy those extra files. It’s also a great way to keep the peace on family vacations.

HP's Pocket Playlist is a pocket-sized portable hard drive that can act like a DVR for Internet video. HP bundled the Pocket Playlist with the subscription-based PlayLater software (Windows only), allowing you to record and save content for later viewing on your Android or iOS device from services like Hulu+, Netflix, and more. When AllThingsD gave it a spin, they found the Pocket Playlist "worked as advertised" and they were able to stream music and video to "four devices at once." However, when playing the same video on multiple devices they noticed "playback was a bit choppy" on one. As for carrying it around, PC Mag says the Pocket Playlist "will slip easily into your jeans pocket." While it may only have 32GB of storage, the Pocket Playlist comes in at almost half the price of some of its competitors, while offering the ability to play recorded Internet video content in a more compact size.

The HP Pocket Playlist is a wireless media drive that can share 32GB of movies, music, and photos with a small group of friends. It's not bad if all you need is a pocket full of Marvel comic book movies and your phone's memory is already full.

Read the full preview →The HP Pocket Playlist looks like an interesting twist on an external storage device that expands on the traditional role of just being dumb storage. Of course, you'll have to consider battery life.
Read the full preview →While the Pocket playlist is a great concept in terms of practicality for the average consumer it may not hit the mark. Unless you have a 16GB iPad there isn’t a whole lot of reason to buy this device.
Read the full preview →The Playlist's $129 price tag seems reasonable, though we would prefer if the company added more than just 32GB of additional storage.
