Detailed review
The HDX 18 series laptop from HP has everything you want in a monster desktop replacement - great screen, big keyboard with numpad, all the bells and whistles from a TV tuner card to bluetooth to every port you can think up.
It also has a great video card, except that, like HP's other laptop entries, it overheats like a mofo after less than an hour of gaming - and not just FPS games, but anything that halfway taxes the system.
The 18" screen is great, though, side-by-side programs fit great and make for easy designing and developing. The keyboard is large and feels responsive, although the metallic touchpad can get jumpy after using it for awhile due to your fingers leaving even non-cheesy-poof residue on it.
The TV tuner and software from HP is also good - not great, but good. DVR capability and HD over-the-air is fantastic.
For anyone but a gamer, I recommend it wholeheartedly. Just remember it's a monster system, you don't want to carry it around or depend on the battery life. Leave it plugged in, on the desk, and it will be perfect.
