The HP Pavilion dm1 might be one of the best laptops available for under $400, but it’s not exactly a perfect machine. It’s not as fast, small, or quiet as an ultrabook. And it can’t handle Netflix HD video playback. On the other hand, it’s a great little computer for anyone looking for a larger screen and better performance than you get with most netbooks. quote

The HP Pavilion dm1-3010nr is a fine computing solution for business workers and other users who spend at least as much time traveling as they do chained to a desk.

At the time of this writing (January 2011) consumers will have a hard time finding an Intel-based ultraportable notebook or netbook that delivers better real world performance and battery life across the board for the same price ... and that's saying a lot.

Overall, the HP Pavilion dm1 isn’t the fastest notebook around ... But it’s one of the few laptops in its price range that weighs less than 3.5 pounds, has an 11.6 inch display, gets around 5 hours of battery life, and offers decent performance for everyday computing tasks.

If you want a light laptop for watching movies on, the HP Pavilion dm1-4027ea does what you want it to do. However, if you want to use it to work on, editing digital photos or anything more strenuous, then you're going to be disappointed.

I was going to buy a netbook. But for $100 more, I get a better processor, more RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium and a bigger screen. I didn't have to sacrifice much since I get about 6 hours of battery life with constant web browsing, occasional music and use of OpenOffice. The only minor...

I've had my dm1 for around a year now, and at $369.99 this thing has been one of the best-valued electronics I've ever bought. That was the base model at the time (with an internet coupon), and it's equipped with a 1.6 GHz E-350 processor, 3 GB of RAM, and 320 gigs of HD. Advertised as a netbook,...
