Windows 8 and HTML5 Apps - empowering the competition?
Doesn't it seem dangerous for Microsoft to pursue an HTML5 strategy for Windows 8 Apps? First, I'll assume that they will run only in IE10, which will probably be backward compatible to Win7, eliminating a compelling reason to upgrade to Win8 in the first place. just run IE10 fullscreen. Second, if Windows developers begin to shift away from traditional Windows-native applications toward HTML5, doesn't that empower Chrome OS, iOS, Android, and even webOS at the same time (in fact, this whole...

What would you change about the Atrix 4G?
Most of us agree that's it's a cool idea, but practical? Useful? I'm not sure, here's what I would change, bullet format because I'm tired. -I think the device is sort of ugly: Fix this. -Stock Android: Obviously. This seems like a very enthusiast/nerdy device yet it's packed with a bloated social networking skin. -Smaller screen: It diminishes the usefulness of the laptop attachment when the phone is already massive, it looks sort of ridiculous hanging off of the...

Chrome OS OR any Cloud-only OS ... Not For Me !
My main PC is the excellent Gigabyte T1028X convertible with touch OS: Win 7 and Kubuntu 10.10. My other two laptops use Vista and Linux. My reasoning : 1. I like my data on my machine and on my backup devices. 2. Dependency on external communications links ? NO! 3. Even with a dedicated high-speed link I would still not become Cloud dependent ... too risky. 4. Chrome OS is too limiting as most of my computer club members (440) do photo manipulation and storage, for example, using apps of their...

What does Chrome OS -- or any cloud OS -- need to do to go mainstream?
I was a little surprised when a Cr-48 -- that new Chrome OS laptop Google has been sending people to test -- showed up on my doorstep last week. I honestly wasn't expecting to get one -- Ryan got gdgt's review unit -- I just applied for one online like everyone else and kept my fingers crossed. I've spent a decent amount of time with it over the past few days (I'm writing this newsletter on it), and so far have some things I like (how easy it is to get setup, how quickly it...

I tried this OS out. As far as I can see it's another Linux OS. I have others I like much more. The new Zorin is great.
I also like Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Zenwalk, Mepis, Puppy and DSL.

Looks like someone from the pilot program already got their hand on a Chrome Notebook and put up an unboxing video on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Br34rX7OzMw Interesting to see that the Caps Lock button is a Search button. As annoying as it is when I hit the Caps Lock by accident, it might be just as annoying to accidentally start a new search mid-sentence. Anyone else get one?

Gdgt no longer HAS a 'download link' for Chrome-OS, as far as I know.
(The old original one is deactiveated.) But, a guy named 'Hexxeh' has a (current) one, and supplies a DEFAULT username/passwd, if YOU don't have a GMail acct/pwd of your own. That download link is here: http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/ Cheers... SS

Anyone know the root password for the chrome os image? Trying to do some things in the terminal and I need the root.
Thanks Installed fine on the newest vmware player. Login worked too.

I am using 7, Google Chrome OS is not a stand alone system I gather from what has been posted here.
So why would I want to take up drive space on a SSD to install another OS.

Too early make a serious comment but this O/S seems to be aimed at the corporate user which is fine as far as it goes but for the average home user I think you…
may as well stick, like me, with using Google apps in a browser.
Not being excessively malicious, it sorta amazes me that so many people fail at using Google in using this Google product...
