Task (and battery) management in Android?
details
One issue I've been having with my Android device lately is that the battery life on my Samsung Galaxy S II is horrible. It's brand new, so there's no reason it should be completely dead after leaving it in my bag over night. (I usually keep it plugged in at work and don't plug it in when I get home.)
As far as I can tell, this is because hitting the home screen in Android doesn't really kill the app or game I had open. It still continues to run in the background, draining my battery. I often... Read more →

Where did my notification bar go?
details
After I did an update the other day of Droid X device I have notice, today, that my notification bar is no longer showing up even though in setting it is turned on and that it was there only earlier today. Also when I restart the device the bar is there for a short time but eventually goes away. System 4.5.621.MB810.Verizon.en.US Android 2.3.4

Why is it so hard to find a decent slider?
details
I can't type on touchscreens to save my life. I'm willing to pay more for a slider with decent hardware, but they all seem to have the guts of 5 year old phones.
I have a Motorola Flipside with 2.2 and I'm ready to throw it out the window. I can't even update any apps any more because it gives me constant out of space errors with its tiny 256 MB RAM x 512 MB, fixed focus, general slowness, and occasional unresponsiveness.
I looked at the specs for the LG Optimus Slider, but it's specs don't seem... Read more →

The motorola defy+, a good buy?
details
I've read several reviews about the device. Overall they are convincing me to buy the defy+. But the camera seems bad or mediocre in all reviews and some reviews mention bad build quality, that makes me unsure I'd like some information from owners about that. Is the camera usable? Only with great light and no movement? Or isn't is that bad? Is the build quality bad, OK or good? Pretty important for a phone that's supposed to be "life proof".

Why is iMessage on the desktop seen as such a revolutionary thing?
details
I've listened to several podcasts and read several articles about OS X Mountain Lion since it was announced earlier this week and I can't help but feel annoyed at how the tech pundits give so much praise to the fact that iMessage is now running on a desktop. For example, The Verge states that, "WHEN IMESSAGE WORKS, IT DEFINITELY FEELS LIKE THE FUTURE." and Cult of Mac states that iMessage will, "...free our cellphones from the slavery of wireless carrier texting plans."
To me, iMessage isn't very... Read more →

Closed platform? Open platform?
details
I'm interested to see what the overall feeling is in 2012 in regards to this. I have been a simultaneous Android and Blackberry/WP7 user over the years and I always prided myself in my Android loyalty and scoffed at those who claimed the open-ness of Google's OS hampered the overall user experience. Last month I received my first iPhone and I think I'm starting to pull a 180. I believe at this point, especially after experiencing iOS firsthand, Google should really consider pulling in the reigns... Read more →

Need a smart phone recommendation thats easy to use and hard to break.
details
I need a recommendation for a smart phone for a family member. The requirements are easy to use (no more complex than an iOS device) and resistant to breaking by dropping (So no iPhone 4/4S with easily broken glass). I would just recommend an iPhone 4 or 4S as she uses an iPod Touch, but the fragility of the glass when dropped is an issue. Anyone have any ideas for something easy to use and not easily broken?

BTW I am leaning towards WP7 for easy to use.

Can I use Google Voice for voicemail on Verizon?
details
My favorite part about Google Voice is using it for voicemail. Unfortunately, in the initial Google Voice setup on my Galaxy Nexus, it tells you that my carrier doesn't support that action or something. Apparently Verizon just wants to squeeze money out of their customers because they have their own visual voicemail but its $36/year (see also: phone and data plan costs).

Is there a workaround I can use in order to use Google Voice for voicemail on Verizon?
