Why so late to mobile gdgt?

Why hasn't mobile been the focus from the beginning? It seems that most research is showing that mobile usage is increasing and even exceeding PC/web usage. Some have even declared the web dead!

So why hasn't gdgt been specifically designed for mobile? Why focus on a redesign (gdgt 2.0) instead of ..m. gdgt or an app, which could bring many new opportunities... More importantly.. was there a greater need (from the user) for a redesign than a mobile site? I personally would have appreciated a catered mobile experience even more than a redesign.

A lot of new companies/start-ups are thinking mobile first. User engagement is high.

Not caring about a mobile strategy/site means you maybe don't care about gdgt's future. Like it or not mobile will be key factor in whether gdgt has a future.

I'm sure they're working on it. No need to rush. Is it REALLY that important RIGHT THIS MINUTE? I think not...
