I'm extremely stoked (and more than a little proud) to announce a brand new gdgt product! It's called the Databox, and it's already live over on a little tech news site you may have heard of called Engadget.
It's no secret gdgt has the best consumer electronics database and collection of detailed user reviews around -- just like it's no secret Engadget has the fastest, most comprehensive coverage of the electronics world -- and we've have long dreamt of how we might marry the two complementary efforts in a way that's greater than the sum of their parts. You can read more about the Databox (and even see it in action) here on Engadget: www.engadget.com/2011/12/23/introducing-the-gdgt-d...
Getting the Databox off the ground has been a massive internal effort over the last few months, and we're excited not only to be able to share our data with Engadget, but to expose the gdgt community's reviews and answers to an even broader audience.
It's often the case that the more effortless this something looks, the harder it actually is. I really have to tip my hat here not just to the tireless efforts of team gdgt, but also to my old pals Tim Stevens, Josh Fruhlinger, Darren Murph, and the rest of the team at Engadget who've had the vision and drive to make this happen. Even though we're launching the first early version of the Databox today, it's already been a pretty amazing and fruitful collaboration.
I honestly can't think of a better way to cap off 2011 than this -- and if you think the Databox is awesome, just wait until you see what we've got cooking for gdgt in 2012!
Announcing the gdgt Databox with Engadget!
Such an awesome feature. Congrats to the entire time for getting this pushed out. Christmas came early for the tech world!
Count me in with Dunnion - would love to feature this on my own site - is that something that's in the works?
