Zune Price Drop

I have yet to see any reason or statements from Microsoft, but a few retailers are now offering both versions for considerably less than the original MSRP. Buy.com and CircuitCity.com have them for $189 and $249 respectively. Any news?

Its seems microsoft has some zune related announcement planned for WMC. I think they are making room for a 64gb HD

Maybe Microsoft will announce a zune hd price drop if they come out with a zune phone at the Mobile World Congress. That sounds logical to me.

This seems like a pretty good deal to me. Microsoft need to start advertising and selling this outside of the US where the iPod isn't as prevalent. They might actually make some inroads and plus I can get one for myself.

Can we interpret the price drops as a move to reduce inventory in advance of a new product release? Or does it mean that I should stop waiting and dive into the zune HD fun?

I'm debating this particular question myself.

I think it's possible, but I haven't heard anything specific about new models.

I think roedog may be referring to the integration of Zune in WinMo7. I think that may just be a possibility.

Good point, I was gonna say something about the big announcement coming up at MWC.

seems a little early for a new model in the world of Zune. Apple would release a new model this soon but I'm not sure Microsoft would, judging from past events. The Zune HD still has several more firmware upgrades to go.

Tigerdirect already boasted these prices: I bought a 32GB Zune for 250 with free shipping on Monday.

Yes, Microsoft make this happen.

Wouldn't the "You get what you pay for" argument come into effect if the price dropped lower? I mean it's a great device (I have one and love it), but it doesn't have half of what the iPod touch has. Maybe an SDK and better browser would help, idk.

I've seen them both significantly lower priced at Frye's. They had about the same price as you listed, a little bit more though. This was around November btw, when I noticed the prices for them there.

I haven't seen any formal announcement about this from Microsoft, but it looks like they might be testing the waters to see if sales go up.

If they get it considerably under the iPod Touch, maybe around 150, that will probably help because then your competitor will be the Nano.
