Xbox 360 Network Storage Server Idea

Many households, organizations, and events have multiple Xbox 360s being used. Transferring content from one to the other frequently through Cloud Storage or flash drives can get repetitive.
What if there were a NAS (Network attached storage) server that could store all the data used for all Xbox 360s on the local network? Things like profiles, game saves, movies, and even games and DLC could be installed on it. It would become the assigned device of the digital download licences. It would be selected as a storage device on the Xbox 360.
When something is selected on the marketplace, the server is told by the console what to download and relays info back on it's status.

It is a fair idea, but you will never see it happen. Movies can already be streamed from a Windows Media Center pc on the network. The rest would be a mess of performance issues and DRM.

Think about multiple xbox 360s trying to load skyrim or forza content at the same time. Instead of loading off their respective disks, they would need to share the NAS at half speed. Game saves are already stored on the cloud, and you can keep them on a flash drive with your profile. I realize you say you dont want to use this, but your profile is realistically only going to be in use on one xbox at a time, so if you permanently keep it on a flash drive (as i do) its not a problem. Just plug it in to the xbox you are using and you have everything

This is an interesting idea. I'm surprised that Microsoft never tried to some how work this into their Window Home Server software but then again that didn't expand as quick as MS hoped. I'm sure they can't do this because of DRM issues though which is a bummer because I for one wouldn't mind being able to dump stuff off to my NAS.

I was wondering if DRM would still be an issue if it was an official licensed Xbox NAS box that would have the licence transferred to it, and content accessed only by the profile the content was purchased with.
I was also wondering about the performance issues as TgD stated. I never had a NAS system to experiment with so I don't really know how it would perform.

I get what you propose but Microsoft itself already has parts of that in place:

Window Home Server hosts media files that can be streamed to any Xbox on the same network, same as a Windows Media Center PC and DLNA servers too.

Profiles are already on the cloud and as of last year game saves as well, probably skydrive will absorb this in the future (hopefully) and that will allow us to tap those 25GB instead of the measly 512MB we have today.

DLC and XBLA games would be a little trickier since these have licences associated to your profile and your Xbox unit and to be honest I think those are better stored locally on the machine to speed up load times and isolate network issues from interfering with gameplay.
