I bought a D300 when it was announced and have used it with no complaints every since. Very versatile and rugged.

Yeah. I really love my D300. I'd love to upgrade to a D700 (or whatever Nikon full frame is out at the time) when I get a chance. But whenever I finally settle down to do some serious photography with the D300, I'm always blown away by the results.

What lenses do you run with?

Remember, upgrading to an FX camera like the D700 will mean you may need a whole new set of lenses.

I love Nikon glass. I've got all Nikon lenses. I purchased in the past 3 Sigmas, but returned them all immediate after trying them. Not good. Right now I have the Nikon 10.5 (fisheye), the new 35mm f/1.8, the old 50mm f/1.8, a 18-200mm VR, a 12-24mm, a 105mm VR, an 18-70 (that I use with my IR body), and an older, tack-sharp Nikon 400mm f/3.5.

You can see my better galleries here:

Almost all of the images there were captured with my D300 - except the infrared pictures where I used a IR-converted Nikon D70s.

I'm aware of that.

The only lenses that would be affected would be my 18-200mm and a Tokina 12-24mm DX lenses.

Other than that, I have a 20mm, 24mm, 50mm and potentially saving up for the 70-200mm VR II and a 24-70mm for my eventual transition to full frame (but the 17-55mm f/2.8 DX lens is so nice, but no reason to get it if I want to eventually upgrade).

Cool. You know, I just reread my post and it sounded like I was showing off my stuff. I hate it when others do that. Sigh. I only meant to say that I love my Nikon glass. Sorry if I sounded snooty.

You know, the really, really awesome lens is that AF-S Zoom-NIKKOR 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED. It works on FX cameras, too. A friend has it. The thing captures stunning color and contrast. It's just way too expensive.

I didn't think you sounded that way, no worries.

Yeah, I've eyed the 17-35mm f/2.8D as well!
