With AT&T's new data caps, it got me thinking...
How much data do flash-animated ads consume versus html5+css ads? I know videos would definitely consume a lot, but I'm still curious nonetheless.
I wonder if Apple would try to be consumer-friendly considering nearly every iPhone sold starting next week will be on a limited data plan. It would be nice if they would only have the iAds download when you are connected via Wi-Fi. I'm not sure if it would be something centralized on the iPhone or app-specific, but that would let it download a number of ads while connected to Wi-Fi and display them quickly in an app even if connected via 3G or EDGE. Even better if it wasn't centralized would be if you never opened a certain app using iAds while connected to Wi-Fi then it would never download the iAds.
I seriously doubt this will happen, but if Apple did this it would afford them some additional goodwill in spite of AT&T.

Yea. If I can't download a 30mb podcast over 3G, then I shouldn't have to deal with data-heavy ads over 3G either.
I would be quite upset if the money I was paying for my bandwidth was being used to pay for the ads I see. The point of these ads is that I DON'T pay for them. The cost for me is just the time it takes for me to look at it and decide wether it's something I care about or will ignore.
