Windows 7

I did a fresh install of the Release Candidate when it came out about a month ago and before that I was running the Beta. I have to say that the combination of this machine and the new OS is sweet!!!!! Although I also use this notebook as my primary work machine, so there was a little bit of risk involved, I haven't had any issues with crashing or losing data and it seems very stable.

Anyone else ditched Vista for the delicious goodness of Windows 7 or has anyone gone crazy and installed a Linux build?

I have RC 7100 installed on my XPS1330 and it has been running great.

seems to have better HD playback on windows 7 in VLC....could have just been the reformat that came along with the clean install of w7

I have 7 running on an old IBM T42 runs sweet .
I had it on a compaq V2000 using it to run WMC . The v2000 is just junk , its been a nightmare since new.
V2000 didnt run 7 as nice as the T42 both have 2 gigs of ram

I got the XPS 1330 with Vista.
Partitioned (3) the SSD and installed Ubuntu, for a dual boot. (3rd partition is for files)
Removed Ubuntu and installed Win 7 Beta.
Formatted the Beta and installed Win 7 RC.

I never boot into Vista. Win 7 does indeed rock on this machine! Takes me under 40 seconds from pressing the power button to the login screen. Already pre-ordered the Win 7 Pro Upgrade on Amazon and waiting for 10/22.

I'm triple booting, Vista, Ubuntu, and Linux Mint, and run Windows XP and Windows 7 in virtual machines under Ubuntu.

Looking to complete the puzzle soon with some BSD and Mac OS X :)

I have mines installed on a Vaio VGN FZ180E and its amazing! Life is better with windows 7! Okay, not that crazy, but it is very well made! The responsiveness of the clicks, the playback of video games and movies, utter nirvana.

I dual boot 7 and Ubuntu. I am using the RC 7100, but I had a hard time with the drivers. Downloaded the whole lot of them and installed what I thought was needed until every problem was fixed. The m1330 is so nice with 7 that I may end up reverse switching (from Mac OS X to Windows).

I have Windows 7 RC installed on both my Asus EEE 1000HE and my desktop. It's actually running really well on the little netbook. IMO, Windows 7 is the perfect OS for netboooks. It's the same for my desktop; Windows 7 RC runs very well and I have yet to run into any problems with it.

I liked Vista a lot but Windows 7 is considerably better. I installed Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro the first day the beta came out and then installed the RC the day it came out. I preordered Windows 7 Professional for this machine and I am going to buy a copy of it for my desktop sometime before March 2010 when the RC starts shutting down every 2 hours.

Do you need to copy the downloaded file to cd to install?

I don't have a XPS m1330 but i do got an XPS m1530 and installed windows 7 RC1 when it came out. So far i can say 7 has worked flawlessly on this laptop. They worked so seamless together its amazing, I love it.

Running 7 RC on my XPS m1530, dual booting with Vista Ultimate. Use to have an Ubuntu partition but got rid of it. I have a 1920x1200 screen and Windows 7 is GORGEOUS on it. Not to mention it generally runs a lot snappier than Vista. Vista was slightly sluggish even with a 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 gigs of RAM and a 256 MB Nvidia graphics card, but Windows 7 runs really smoothly. Haven't had any problems with crashes or incompatibilities yet. I'm surprised so many Vista programs and drivers work with it.

i installed the rc on my m1330. while the rc found most of the peripherals, i did have to go to dell's support site to find a few items. i was getting some screen corruption problems, but after i updated to the a12 bios, it's been very stable. love it.

Tried to install Tiny7 on it and it resulted in a blue screen on boot, every time, so I wouldn't recommend trying that out.

I have an msdn account and installed the release to manufacturing x64 on my M1330 (with integrated intel graphics) and it works fine, only driver that it didn't get directly was for the trackpad (scrolling wouldn't work by default) and I downloaded the driver for vista from synaptics website.

Been running this for about a week and seems to work great no crashes/blue screens, so far I'm very happy with windows 7.

I also have this laptop and access to an MSDN account. I'm trying to decide if I should install the 32-bit or 64-bit version. Yes I know the 64-bit is better, but I'd like to use the other on my Macbook Pro through boot camp. Since the Macbook is a little faster, I might want to use the 64-bit on it.

Dual booting b/w Vista and Windows 7. I don't I've booted into vista for the last 6 months - 7 is a much, much better experience. Given I also bought my m1330 way too early, I've only got 2GB of RAM and a 2GHz proc, but 7 still runs like a king on my machine.

Any special drivers required?

While pottering around my storage areas I discovered an M1330 I didn't get rid of. It's still under warranty and full Completecare for another year so I figured I'd use the hell out of it, hopefully it'll fail a couple of times more and I can get them to replace it during this period.

Worst laptop I've owned in the last 3 years I think: Terrible build quality combined with Apple-like reliability.

I have installed Windows 7 on my wife's M1330 and it has been running much smoother than Vista. However, my oldie HP dv1000 has died since and now I've taken over my wife's computer (got her an Asus eeePC 1005HA). I'm installing Linux Mint 7 on this machine in couple days, but I might just try Dell's version of Ubuntu 9.04 first. You can get it at linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_9.04#Dell_OS_...

I signed up to host a Win 7 launch party. You know what that means! Win 7 Ultimate (Signature edition) will be on my m1330 within the next week or two. Cannot wait.
