Windows 7 upgrade

I have a windows 7 disk and one code. Can I just buy a upgrade and get a new code or do I need to be running Windows XP to upgrade? Is this legal as I want it to work and I do not want to steal software anymore.
Can I just use my OEM disk and buy upgrades for the codes? I need more then one.

Every Windows 7 upgrade I've purchased (4 in total), I've been able to do a clean install (by choosing the advanced option during the setup), but I know this isn't always the case. My friend had to seek out an Vista disc to use the upgrade, so YMMV. I haven't had any issues.

As for using an OEM disc for use with upgrades. If you haven't activated the OEM version on another computer and migrating to a different computer, then I don't see a problem there.

Other people have been able to call Microsoft and get them to activate their copy, but that really depends on how nice the rep is that you get.

So you payed over $100 for the 4 you purchased? That is what I need to do. I am using the one disk I have and code. I was hopping there was a way I could just buy 3 codes from windows for some kind of a deal. I do not think the disk itself goes with the code right? Its more is this code being used. Or do I have that wrong?

I heard about a site like 2 years ago where personal users could get microsoft products for a yearly payment of maybe $299. Do you remember anything like this?

Sounds fishy. I would never pay a yearly payment, especially at $299, which is pretty much the cost of a full retail version of Windows 7.

I purchased my upgrades from Microsoft's yearly Ultimate Steal deal for $30 each. You need a student email address to be able to purchase one. Luckily I still have access to mine.

You can give pika2000's workaround a try. If all else fails, you can purchase OEM copies from newegg, but they're tied to that one computer and aren't transferable.

What kind of Windows 7 DVD do you have? If it's an upgrade DVD, easiest method to install it on a completely blank system (no existing windows installation) is to do the double installation method:
1. Install Windows 7 without putting any serial number. Windows 7 will install as a "trial" mode.
2. Re-run the installation DVD. Now you can re-install using the serial as the DVD thinks it's "upgrading" an existing Windows.

OEM DVDs are usually a full version of Windows (not upgrade), so you can install it straight, but some are pre-activated to the original system it came with, and it might trigger the Activation Process. Since you have a valid Windows 7 license, you can just use that or if the system wants you to call Microsoft, it should not be a problem using your valid code.
