Will you upgrade to the iPad 2-3G model? Or just the Wi-Fi one?
Now that Apple is releasing iOS 4.3, I think the iPad 3G is kinda pointless.
What do you think?
Greetings.

I'm going to make sure the next tablet I get has a GSM connection (I'm not committing to iPad2 unseen). But not for internet access.
I can get a sim card which plugs it's data not into the internet, but into our corporate network. This would give me access to what I need to do my work any device that has a SIM card slot without hoping that the network infrastructure is compatible with the exact type of VPN the tablet provider has decided to implement.

I have the 3G now and if i do upgrade i will go 3G again. now if they have the GPS in the non 3G i may not. But there are other factors for me to upgrade to another $700 plus device. what will the new iPad have that really makes upgrading viable?
i like having the internet access every where i go and not having to carry another device around with me. the iPhone is great but i like my music player the size of the nano and the iPad 3G offered almost all the features that the old 3GS offered.
as for the GPS not being used often i use almost every time i go for a drive either for GPS or Traffic its a lot easier to see than the iPhone's screen.

Seeing some of the CES coverage there looks to be a lot of competition coming (possibly) against the iPad soon. But for most people (not likely early adopters but people like my parents and siblings) I don’t see them going to another device. They have invested too much in the apple ecosystem. Sure the music now is something they can move to other device but not the Apps, or the TV Shows and Movies they may have purchased from iTunes.
I tried getting my nephew on an android phone because it was cheaper for him and had better features but his 1st concerns were about his media as his iPhone is also his MP3 Player and Video player.
Personally one of the things I like about the Apple walled garden is that I can buy the next iPad and connect it to my PC and It will restore my old iPad on the device. All my apps, music, books and video move over with little to no Hassel. That’s a really nice feature.

I don't think you can call the walled garden a feature. I love the simplicity and ease also but part of me can't help feeling like i would much rather have a neutral platform that lets me move my music, movies and apps with me wherever i decide to go. Even if it is a bit more work
It's not a big problem now because most Apple products are either better or comparable to what the competition has to offer but what happens in 5 years if they aren't?

That makes sense. And maybe I should have said “Ecosystem” instead o f walled garden.
Having multiple devices being all supported and being able to share content within the same ecosystem could be seen as a feature.
I agree I would like to be able use my content regardless of the hardware platform I am using. But that is not something that is truly supported today especially when you throw in DRM. I know you can get around this in some ways but for most people they won’t make the effort to find ways to remove the DRM or rip their own content so they can do this and that not taking into account applications.

Eh. I don't completely agree. Sure, having the ability to create a wifi hotspot is pretty nice, but I'd still like a 3G iPad for a few reasons. Namely, the flexibility to connect to the internet almost anywhere, whether I have my phone on me or not. Also, there's the issue with battery drain while running a wifi hotspot on the device.
Depends on what Rogers does, if they charge me for the WIFI hotspot feature i will probably get the 3G.
If Engadget's sources are right and it has a retina display and the massive specs bump then yeah i will order it day one, if it's just a little better i will probably hold out for next years model.
Would like to give the Xoom a shot but have so much money invested in apps at this point it really feels like switching would be a massive pain in the ass.

I think there is probably a pretty large percentage of iPad buyers that don't own an iPhone or even a smartphone.
But that feature is not supported by AT&T today.
so i don't see that really helping today. if they do start support it im sure they will charge for it also.

Very rarely do I have an occasion where I want/need 3G data on my iPad. On those occasions I grab the MiFi from the office and go.
No 3G,
Already pay AT&T $30 a month for internet through the iPhone, can't stomach anymore money paid for less than 5 hours of internet use a month. I am looking forward to the tethering feature. In the 10 months I have owned the iPad, I did encounter one situation where I was jealous of the 3G iPad right next to me.
I had been using the iPad a ton, up until a few months ago, then not so much. However, I am getting used to more magazines being published on the iPad, including the Economist, and it is awesome. In fact, the Economist has their mag, typically $135/yr for free on the iPad.
There will be no upgrade for the camera tho. Still don't use facetime on the iPhone, why would I on the iPad. I considered attempting to jump the announcement, and sell my iPad now. The only thing I would buy the iPad 2 for would be the retina display (or doubling). However, the final convincing argument that makes me believe that there will be no increase in screen resolution (besides Apple being smart about incrementally releasing it's upgrades, rather than all at once) was that the camera iris picture for the upcoming OS includes a bigger version for the iPad, however it is at the 1024 X 752 resolution.
iPad will go retina, just not this year.
