Will a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7201A processor be fast enough?

I am wondering if this processor will be fast enough to run good? HTC has the Nexus one with a processor twice as fast as this one. The thing that appeals me about this phone over the Nexus One is that it has a physical keyboard over a virtual keyboard.

It will not be nearly as fast as the Nexus one, but if you are looking for a faster phone with a physical keyboard, why not consider the Droid? It's much faster than the backflip, which uses the same processor as most older android phones (like the cliq, hero, touch3g, g1, eris, etc.).

I would consider the Droid if they had a GSM version that will work with AT&T's 3G network. As of now that only leaves the Backflip.

Wait for the AT&T 3G N1 or Iphone 4G. The backflip honestly doesn't look very apepaling (Slow, small, potentially lacking core Google functionality etc.).

Besides the lack of Google apps on this phone(personally shouldn't really be called an android) a 528mhz processor will do it just fine. As long as this has 250+mb os RAM you shouldn't see any slow down or sluggishness. My GF has the Cliq which is close enough to this and it runs perfectly fine for what she uses it for.

From the looks of it, it does have Google apps. It shows Google Maps, Google Talk, Gmail, ect. Or am I missing something? Also according to the specs from Motorola it has 512 Mb of ROM.

Maybe it does have it, back when they first announced it or showed it, it did not have Gmail, Gtalk and Search(it was replaced with Yahoo services) but it did have the market and maps. So they probably changed that, since it would have been idiotic not to include Google apps on a Google phone. And 512 of ROM will work just fine, and i believe it has at least 256mb of RAM which should also work. ITs getting the 2.1 upgrade which means its pretty future proof as long as motorola keeps updating motoblur.

I was pretty sure that it didn't have those apps either. I think it supports Gmail and Google Talk within it's own apps. When you look at images of the device it never really shows a Google app on the homescreen. I feel like anyone can download Google Maps though regardless of whether or not their device is 'with Google' or not.

The thing that contradicts all of this is that Motorola does actually list those services on the product page so I guess it does have them.

I'm pretty sure it'll have those apps. The CLIQ that I have has gmail, google maps and gtalk and it is not a google branded phone. Although, from what I remember, the initial presser had Yahoo for search instead of google.

I've actually turned off all the BLUR stuff on the CLIQ and killed every single app running in the background and it runs smoothly. As long as you can manage the apps with a task killer, the CPU on this thing should be enough.

So you can just toggle Blur on and off from within the OS without doing any trickery? That's pretty nice. I would definitely do that too if I had a Motorola phone. The way things are going though, my next phone will probably be an HTC. Gotta love those thin devices with AMOLED screens.

You can turn most of the skins off just by defaulting another home app. Stock android in itself is a home app, as is open home, GDE, ect..., and don't forget Samsung has AMOLED screens as well, in fact their first phone was OLED>

I was watching a youTube video of the Motorola Backflip from AT&T and if you watch closely when he is in the applications menu you see the Gmail, Google Maps, and Google Talk as he flys threw it, Going frame by frame helps but its at 2:43 on the video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FliIeZ-SOlo

I just saw and andriod twitter update from one of the sites I follow that says they opted into the google apps and got rid of yahoo. Which is a good thing. I think there was probably to much pressure from google to let AT&T force the backflip to use yahoo(which is my theory as to why it was on there in the first place.)

Moto should be ashamed of themselves to be putting out another Android 1.5 phone. Hopefully it gets that 2.1 upgrade soon after launch. The 1.5 Market feels especially out of date.

They have already confirmed 2.1 for the Cliq so it is inevitable that all other motoblur phones will get it. Like most other phones it will probably come out late march early april time frame.
