Why must this product stink so much? Why not include a DVR and apps?
if it did, it could take out Tivo and Roku
Since it has 8GB of onboard storage it seems likely that apps are coming (probably in the next 6 months). DVR is never going to happen though. Can anyone imagine Steve Jobs and the cable industry working together?
A DVR with 8 Gb of storage would suck...
I do agree though that it isn't a mature product. Apple have all the time and money in the world to make this anything they want it to be, but yet it's still a bit of a lame duck. Very held back IMHO.

There are apps available now, if you want to hack it. Check out: firecore.com/atvflash
I think this is more indicative of the entire digital media player genre and how we watch TV actually. No one has been able to get it right yet and it's hard. The Boxee Box, Google TV, Roku, and Apple TV, while nice, still feel like a sort of hack in terms of the home theater.
All these devices just don't mesh well with the current experience, IMHO and feel like some sort of inelegant hack. Companies have been trying to bridge this gap between internet and television since WebTV.
It's a tough issue to solve, and until content providers are wholly onboard, I don't think there's going to be a truly awesome solution anytime soon!

Dude, if you think this sucks, then you are clueless and impatient. Does the iPhone suck in your mind? The iPad? Give it some time and realize what this products initial purpose is. To rent content from Apple. Be happy that they added Netflix, and one of the best UIs for Netflix. Roku is cheap tech. Tivo, which was the leader, needs to figure out their software.
