why is it taking so long to release gingerbread for this?

extremely annoying for people who bought a google branded phone and a new phone is out with it on it already. please push soon.

I don't know. I'd hope we would get it soon.
You can always put the ROM on there yourself if you're really don't want to wait: engt.co/hu1Gw2

I think this phone is no longer their big deal. It is now nexus s. Only devs get this phone now a days it seems

i feel like since 1- it is mainly for developers, it has been the 'standard' phone and therefore should be readily available and 2- it was sold by google, it uses the a pure android OS, no htc, motorola, samsung UI etc to tweak so whats the hold up.

Google tweeted today from @GoogleNexus that the OTA Gingerbread update will be coming in "the coming weeks." I'll be waiting for that, and look forward to it.

That's the ongoing problem with the Android OS--The fragmentation concerning which phone gets the newest version update. Look at the G1 for example which never/will never get pass the 1.6 Donut update (absent rooting the device) which mostly is due to its aging hardware specs.

That being said, I am an advocate of Android OS and have never had a different smart phone platform (started with the G1 and now have an Evo 4G).

that sometimes is an issue, but some of it depends on what the service provider wants too. Verizon is pushing to droid in 2011, it could be done soon, but they just want to wait

The N1 was released in January, so Google moving on 1 year later isn't really inappropriate, in my opinion. They still support the hardware in AOSP and thats the most important thing.

Get a grip, dude. Gingerbread has been out about a week? Look at how many phones haven't even gotten Froyo. What I want to know is, where is the wifi only Tab?

my point is that it is a phone branded by google...it should be released at the same time. who is going to buy google's phones if they cant even keep their own line unfragmented?

anyway, i agree with wifi only tab option, not sure why they limited that. will be plenty of tablet devices coming out next year though.

I assumed the wifi only Tab was waiting for Gingerbread to be official, and there's a warehouse somewhere full of them, waiting for Google to give Samsung the okay to sell them. (I'm pretty sure the wifi only Tab was always intended to run Gingerbread.)

But, maybe they were never built, because the 3g versions were selling better than Samsung expected, and then they realized how close the release of Gingerbread and Honeycomb were going to be, so they scrapped the wifi only Gingerbread Tab 1.

What makes you think that the Galaxy Tab is going to get Gingerbread soon. Samsung hasn't been that quick at keeping up with the OS, and I would think that there might be more into the work they need to do for the tablet (although, I haven't played with the Galaxy Tab, so I don't know how much Samsung UI is there).

The phones that haven't gotten FroYo haven't gotten FroYo because they aren't a priority to the manufacturers or the carriers. One of the benefits of getting a phone from the Nexus line is that you will get the "Pure Google" experience and get the updates as soon as they are available. The Nexus One should undoubtedly be the next Android phone to get Gingerbread. It is just a matter of time until they push it out.
