Why discontinuation of 12"?

I'm kind of bummed that Apple decided to discontinue making 12" screened MacBooks.
I would have gotten a 12" MacBook Pro, if it was in existance.
Anyone else?

I agree. If Apple decided to make a much smaller laptop, or even a netbook, I would be among the first to buy!

Yeah, I always thought the 12" PowerBook was exactly what a notebook computer should be: compact and portable for on-the-road work, but powerful enough to be a main computer that you could hook up to a bigger screen if needed.

But I admit a 13" wide screen has MUCH better appeal with mainstream consumers, and that is one crazy big slice of pie that Apple should rightly want in on. Heck, I was pretty much satisfied with giving up my 12" MacBook Pro dreams when Apple came out with the unibody MacBook. I clearly remember how much I wanted my 12" PB to have one of the fancy new 13" wide screens popping up on PCs at the time...

I'd feel the same way if there was an "actual" 13 inch MacBook Pro.

What exactly is wrong with the 13" MacBook Pro they offer now?

the 12" PowerBook (eventually) became the 13" MacBook Pro, the 14" became the 15".

I'm just saying it isn't as powerful as the 15 and 17 inch MacBook Pros, which is a big downer :(

I LOVED my 12". I hated to give it up. It was a work laptop that I had to give back when I left one of my jobs.

I think the 13" unibody MacBook is a great replacement. Just a slightly bigger screen. And if Apple was going to join the Netbook foray, they would need to go down to 10"-11" screens,

I recently sold mine, with an 867 MHz proc and 1152 MB of RAM to a serious and reasonably knowledgeable machead for $350 with plenty of defects and have seen them for go for $500 on Craigslist. People love the 12"ers...

Yeah, the 12" was such a great form factor! I wish they'd bring it back. They were solid machines and a perfect size.

These 12" beasts are the stuff of legends. It is shocking how many people still have them and use them every day. They were obviously well made .. Lots of people I know have these instead of a netbook.

The 12" powerbook was really thick! Also, I never used one personally, but I think it would be a deal breaker to have to use that tiny screen for mainstream applications, if it's just to read e-mail and chat most of the time then I would just get a smaller, thinner netbook.

It wasn't thick! It's just so small that it seems thick. But in fact, at 30 mm it was one of the thinnest laptops of its time. An MSI wind for example is still thicker.
