I considered a Hackintosh install (too complicated), Windows 7 (too windowsy) and Debian (not sure why not), but in the end went with a minimal Ubuntu 9.04. I chose that OS because it seems to be well supported and tested, plus I like the control you have over a Linux install.
So, what did you choose and why?
Oh and does anyone have a good tip on a USB 802.11n adapter that's well supported under Ubuntu?

Which OS did you choose?
I have never really found a usb N adapter that worked well regardless of the OS. I am using a PCI wireless card.
The linksys WMP600N is supported out of the box on 9.10, I think that a fully updated 9.04 supports it as well.
The card itself does dual band N has two external antennas and is fantastic in terms of speed and reliability when paired with my buffalo DD-WRT router.

I'm running windows 7, boots straight to boxee. I tried installing ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 using the lifehacker guide, but could never get it working properly. I wanted my system to run smoothly and non hacky. Also, to be compatible with my other systems like my xbox 360 and windows laptops.
Runs great now, no performance issues. Ran a 720p movie with 5.1 dts with no skipping or gittering and it looked FANTASTIC. I did strip down windows 7 to bare essentials. Pretty much leaving only windows media center and player. Got it wired directly my router, external hard drive, and home theater. With it hardwired to my gigabit router, the network speeds are lightning fast.
Only thing I have left to do is get a remote for it. I have the iphone boxee remote app and it works well, but my wife wants to be able to control it when I'm not around. More importantly, I want it to be compatible with my Bose lifestyle RF remote and have 1 remote controlling all my equipment.
Any remote suggestions?
