Where is Android 2.x for the Magic?
Hasn't it been ridiculously long since devices started appearing with Android 2.x and we still don't have any upgrade for the mTouch 3G? This is very different than previous OS releases. It can't be an exclusivity thing any more since the Nexus One has 2.x and is on T-Mobile.
Well the Nexus One isn't really on Tmobile, more like its supported by Tmobile since Tmobile doesn't actually sell it. And I believe we will start seeing updates to 2.1 here very shortly as the code for 2.1 was just released a couple of days ago I believe. SO now that AOSP has been updated it will be easier for every to update their builds of android to 2.1. Historically I thinks it takes about a month or so after AOSP is updated before the devices start getting it and I think that coincides with what I remember Tmo saying they will be updating their phones.
Beginning to think that main advantage of the Nexus One is that it is more closely tied to Google and therefore will get Android updates faster.
I'm in Canada, and its rumored to surface mid-2010 (around June or so)... I agree with the "not soon enough"!
Its pretty buggy on my device.. i have mentioned some of the problems so far with the Sense update in another thread.... >< sigh
Tmobile has promised 2.1 for the Mytouch androidandme.com/2010/01/phones/t-mobile-mytouch-3... but if you can't wait there is a 2.1 rom for the Magic, a couple actually but they are not complete as in not working right yet. There is issues with auto synching of google apps, no video so no youtube, and a lot of force closes all over the place. But I ran it on my G1 which handled it just fine, in fact it is still on there.
I would rather wait until the spring while T-mobile finishes the software testing and debugging instead of installing an early ROM on my own.
My impression, based on anecdotal evidence, is that version 2.1 of the android software is still in beta testing. A friend of mine with a nexus 1 and android 2.x complains of a crash requiring a replace-the-battery-reboot at least once a week.
