What do you think of the MBP refresh?
Apple finally gave their MacBook Pros the refresh you've long been hearing about: Sandy Bridge processors, AMD graphics (except for the 13" MBP), Thunderbolt I/O, and HD webcams.
Engadget has a nice overview of all the changes: www.engadget.com/2011/02/24/apple-refreshes-macboo...
I'm a little disappointed that the 13" still has a 1280x800 resolution screen. I would consider picking one up if it was 1440x900, which is plausible since the Macbook Air is at that screen resolution.
So who's buying one?

I was hoping to see a little drop in the weight, but the specs look pretty good. I see a 15" with non-reflective screen in my future.
I would have loved to have seen the 16GB SSD for the OS. If they had that, I would have sold my early 2008 MBP in a heartbeat and gone with the new one!
Perhaps in the summer with Lion, that's not a bad prediction. I think having a small SSD for the OS is genius as it would significantly improve boot time and launching applications. The cost of going all SSD is still not justifiable in my mind (though I've heard people praise it as the second coming of Jesus... maybe I hang around too many Macophiles?).
Don't talk like that... I've been dying for a new laptop and now that they've upgraded the cycle, I was ready to buy. But now with developer preview of lion already out and you talking about the next laptop already, it makes me want to wait longer just-in-case.
I have an 07 17"MBP so I'm hurting for new.

So is a MBP 13 preferred over the MBA 13. I like the form factor and better resolution of the MBA. But if I add the SSD to the MBP seems as though I have a much better machine. For a coder, any reason I would want a MBA?
I too would have liked to see a higher-resolution screen on the 13", but otherwise it's a very nice update.
I'd say it's one of the largest updates that the MacBook Pro has ever had in terms of internals...
It's a good upgrade in terms of hitting a lot of things. But for me personally, it's not significant because I already have an 09. They upgraded the cpu, and graphics. But the screen resolutions weren't changed. They didn't add blu-ray (as if anyone thought they would actually do it). No SSD for the OS ala air for faster booting (not that that really matters...who doesn't just sleep the thing).
I guess I was expecting stuff like a form factor change (lighter, thinner) as well that didn't happen.

Compared to my ageing Mid-2007 MacBook Pro 15", its a good upgrade. Thinking of ditching 15" for the 13", but I was hoping to see a higher resolution, like on the 13" Air.
I'm waiting to see the benchmarks for graphics and CPU before I take the plunge (and waiting so I can get a discount)

Quad-core flambebook?
I love the smell of overheating shiny form-over-function paeans to clueless consumers in the morning.
I'll consider refreshing my remaining '09 17-inchers down the line once the inevitable new-rev quality control problems are revealed and resolved - so about 1-2 quarters. Overheating aside, it would be handy to have the two extra cores and the 512Gb SSD - which isn't that badly priced as an add-on. I'll keep the '10's.

I'd imagine ownership of 10 generations of Macbook Pro's has given me a sense of precedent about Apple's priorities.
Count the refreshes. Even a minor change seems, historically, to have given Apple teething issues with initial shipments - in terms of the same incremental refreshes that every other manufacturer seems to be able to pull off without incident.
I only see 8. No matter, I think it's a bit silly to be making these assumptions before any information is available. If you hate them so much, why do you keep buying them?
