I want an IPad but I don't feel like I must have one. I like gadgets enough that I'd buy one anyway but I figure that if I wait the second gen will make me have to have one or I'll buy a first gen cheap.

If I were to get one, I'd hope for a higher resolution screen and a camera for video chats. Other than that, it seems like the best consumption device out there right now.

I was planning on buying one, but after I got my iPhone 4 I didn't want to look at a screen with such a low pixel density. Hopefully they'll upgrade the display with v2.

I wonder if the update cycle will be ~1 year like the iPhone. If so, I think holding out is doable if you're looking to get more out of the iPad (new features) before putting down $.

I have owned three out of four iPhones, and now the iPad. I will be buying Gen 2 right along side of you, but won't penalize myself by not owning Gen 1 for the following year.

I guess I'm just not into the current IPad enough to buy one. If I felt like I really wanted one I'd buy one. Apple seems to leave out just enough to keep me from buying their products. I have bought Apple IPods but that is all.

Now's the time to buy one. Why? There will be undoubtedly better tablets from other makers along soon when Microsoft, Google and (possibly) HP gets their acts sorted out by the time the iPad gets the next refresh. So if you specifically want an iPad, it's best to enjoy this consumer-tablet experience while it's fresh IMO.

The tablet is, given the limitations of the iPad, something that other companies can be a lot more flexible on. The UI elements aren't as unique as it was with the iPhone came out too - so there's going to be less of a clear-cut differentiation as in the iPhone 1 & 2 timeframe.
