I've always liked my SN95G5 but it has always had a cold boot problem (have to pull the power out to make it start up after a shutdown). I discovered this may be a problem with the Athlon64 3500+ processor being incompatible with the motherboard (which appears to be FN95 v2.0 BOM 21). It's not a power draw issue (I know because I even tried a big external PSU).
I have swapped the graphics card fairly recently - the AGP slot and small PSU rather restrict your options but for what it's worth, the following works well: ASUS N7600GS SILENT/HTD/256M - it's a silent 256Mb GeForce 7600GS card.
But now I want to replace the CPU.
It says here www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Shuttle/SN95G5_%28FN95_V2.0... that I can put in an Athlon64 x2 4800+. Shuttle say so too, with some rather incomplete footnotes: global.shuttle.com/support_list03.jsp?PI=836. These guys make me less confident however: www.sudhian.com/index.php?/forums/viewthread/86687....
Has anyone tried an Athlon64 x2 4800+ in one of these - or something similar?
Thanks
Alan
