Upgrade or No Upgrade

Alright I have been thinking about this for a few months now. I have a non-unibody Macbook Pro which I got back in December of '08. I have been thinking about upgrading but can't really justify it. I have the matte screen version with the 512mb 8600GT. I was thinking of upgrading to either a 13 or 15inch but don't really know what would be better. I do a lot of photo editing as I am a photographer. The student discount and free iPod don't hurt either :D Just looking for some input as to how you like/dislike the new unibody with the glossy display. Thanks!

Unless you're having trouble with your current computer, I think you should stick with what you have until a matte option is once again available for the 15" uni-body model.(just guessing) My gf is also a professional photographer and she always tells me to stay away from glossy if you're in that field. I trust her judgment, but I'm sure other photogs will weigh in here as well. Hope this helps.

Yeah if you don't need it I wouldn't get it. Save your money and wait for the next revision, then you've got something to look forward too.

nope on the upgrade. Unless you can sell you current MBP and the price difference is not hard you, I wouldn't upgrade. The improvements from the '08 MBP are good, but incremental.

i wouldnt bother. hit up www.macsales.com and check out the 6gb RAM upgrade option. even at the baseline 2.4ghz processor, 6GB of ram and 10.6 snow leopard is more than enough speed and power. plus, spending 200$ on a ram upgrade (new MBPs can support 8gb, so 6gb on an old model aint bad) beats shelling out for a whole new laptop.

currently running 15" penryn macbook pro, 2.4ghz 6GB ram. despite what apple tells you, it CAN be done.

You can put 6GB of RAM into the old MBP? How so?
