I've been thinking for a while about upgrading from a Late '07 13" MacBook to a new 17" Unibody MacBook Pro. I took a trip to the local Apple store today to try one out, and was surprised to find that the trackpad was much further forward (in the direction of the keyboard) than on my MacBook (and even the 13" Unibody MBPs.)
I'm used to about a 1/4" gap between the front edge of the machine and the trackpad button, and the larger models had a much larger one, making it uncomfortable for me to use.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, does it lessen over time as you get used to it?
Discussion about
Trackpad too far forward?
I have the 15" and I actually want the freaky trackpad of the 17". Sitting on the couch or any literal "lap-top" situation, not much room to access the clicky part of the trackpad, it's too far forward.
I think Armpit's problem might also be solved by the 17", because you're keeping your hands farther forward of the cutting edges of the clamshell.

What gets me far more is the usual Apple ergonomic fail in form-over-function, in this case in terms of the sharp edges of the palmrest.
