Touch screen or buttons?

Which do people prefer? I had the harmony 525 before this and I personally preferred nice solid buttons, sure the touch screens look nice but its so easy to slide your finger across and muck up your setup. I would of stuck with the 525 but it crashed and never came back on.

i have the 890 and seriously considered getting the 1000. i don't think i could get along without all of the buttons. its the same dilemma with cell phones. muck up the screen with fingerprints and have the sleek beautiful looking remote, or get the one with buttons and have something thats functionally equal but not as sleek

I prefer buttons, and only use the touchscreen for non-universal buttons (like almost every device out there uses "Menu" but only bluray has "popup menu"...

I like this better than the full touchscreen remotes just because I like my remotes to be sleek and I'm so used to this form factor. I want to get one of these in the near future because we currently have 8 remotes and it is getting ridiculous.

I ended up getting the 720 and I think, with the amount of non-techie people using the remote at my place, it was the right decision. I think the touch screen would have been sweet and I would have liked it better, but buttons work for your everyman better.

Sounds like a pretty good assessment. I'll have to consider it because there are a couple non-tech-saavy people in the house.

In all honesty, the perfect remove will have OLED buttons, since thats all the display is for more or less... i can see the help functions being a little messed up by this, but doubt Logitech would have any problems figuring it out... they could get Art. Lebedev (a la Optimus Maximus Keyboard fame) in on the action for some consulting...lol

The buttons on remotes are still too small for OLED buttons. I don't think we'll see remotes with the regular small buttons switch to OLED buttons for years. An OLED touchscreen device would be nice I think. And of course Art Lebedev would be a fantastic consultant, haha. Probably charges a fortune.

I appreciate the combination of touchscreen and buttons. It provides a lot of flexibility without putting a bunch of buttons on the control. My wife is fairly non-technical and has no problem using the harmony one.

I prefer buttons.

I picked up this remote because I had the Sony VU(???) and when I use a remote I don't want to look down at the screen to see what I'm doing. Plus I find with touch screen I touch the wrong spot quite often. No I wanted to Watch TV not watch a DVD.

Overall this unit is MUCH better than the Sony and it's "fun" to design your own favourite buttons.

I've had some FRUSTRATION with the Wizard tool as it keeps thinking my DLINK 320 is ONLY a music player, I watch online video, movies, etc and haven't found a way to get it to turn on my TV.

setup a custom activity and you can choose which devices it uses and what they do. that's how i got it to work right with my htpc

I like actual buttons. I've had a couple all touchscreen remotes and they tend to be too big if they have very many buttons available on a screen. This and the 900 (I have both) work really well to give you the flexibility of the touchscreen with physical buttons that are easier to press. All in a size that you can fix in one hand. My other touchscreen remotes took two hands to operate, which got annoying.

I really like the buttons but the touch screen offers quick access to a lot of extra functions on complicated remotes plus the favourite channel icons are great.

Buttons.

Think about how you use your remote. If you are anything like me, a lot of the time you are watching the screen and not looking down at your remote when you use it. If you move to a touch-screen only, you need to look down at the remote every time you go to do anything. Thats a big shift in how you use your remote. But, as others have already mentioned, a combo of touch and buttons could be quite good.
