gdgt - There's an APP for that
details
Just some thoughts on possible gdgt App. I haven't seen one for android, not sure if there is one for iOS. But was thinking same functionality as the website. Also when any 'share' link is clicked in android along with the other apps that come up (email, springpad, evernote, bluetooth send, etc...) it could also associate to 'gdgt' where we can add it to our favorites, had it, want it, etc..

PSA: Free content around the holidays (iTunes, Google Play, BlackBerry App World)
details
This is just a post to let you all know that Google, Apple, and RIM are all giving away some great content to match the new devices you may be getting this holiday. You can of course get the content through either your device or PC for Android or iOS (in case of a future device) or only on-device for BlackBerry OS 7.1
Google Play- offering daily freebies. A few have passed already, but it is still early in the game. Today has an 811 page eBook about bar-tending with video tutorials! Book, ark it... Read more →

Why is the "Best Apps" section all iOS apps?
details
When I was logged into gdgt today (from a computer & not a phone) I noticed the Best Apps section. I'm not sure how old or new this section is. So I started surfing through the section and I realized that all of the apps stated that they were only iPhone or iPad. Why is that?

I would love to check out this section and see some Android apps.

Install Google Now on your ICS phone
details

If you're dying to get your hands on Google Now, you might not have to wait any longer. The peeps over at XDA developers figured out how to get this up and running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Only caveat is that this will only work on AOSP roms.
Here it is working on my Droid X running Cyanogenmod 9:

Ouya Android game console

Can an open gaming console like the Ouya succeed?
details
The Ouya is an Android game console that will be open to developers, hackable by its users, and offer free games—all for an enticing $99 price tag. It's being designed by Yves Behar (OLPC, Jawbone) and has Ed Fries (Xbox), Amol Sarva (Peek), Peter Pham (Color), and Julie Uhrman (IGN) backing it up.
All of this sounds like an absolute dream, but there's a reason it's been only a dream to this point. The cheap, open console idea has been tried before, most notably with the Indrema over 10 years... Read more →

The Myth of Android Fragmentation
details
"there were at least 23 different iOS operating systems on which apps had crashed and 33 Android operating systems on which apps had crashed. (See the graphs above.) Note that the graphs that separate out Android and iOS show these number of operating systems and the graph that combines both iOS and Android shows less–22 iOS and 17 Android." 23 versions of iOS in the wild. Don't take my word for it. The "less fragmentation" of iOS doesn't appear to have helped it's stability either as Android... Read more →

The obligatory "Show me your homescreen" discussion
details
Now that we have this sweet image support in discussions, it's well overdue to show off your homescreen on gdgt. Here's my phone homescreen:

I'm running Liberty Rom (Gingerbread) on my Droid X so it's pretty much stock Android, though I tweaked the colors a bit to make it faux ICS. You probably know most of these apps, but I'll highlight some that I think are interesting.
