This one over the wired keyboard with number pad?
I'm trying to choose between this and the wired keyboard with the numeric keypad. I do some photography and post processing as a hobby so I eventually want to get a desktop-ish setup with a large monitor and a keyboard and mouse. I'm a CS student and I think that coding on the wired one will be more comfortable because of the extended layout but I know that at some point I'm going to want to move they keyboard away from the desk to type on my lap or whatever. Maybe just move it around the desk to make room for texbooks or papers or whatever. Any thoughts?
Why choose? I keep a wireless slim profile kb around to grab as a convenience when needed. The range is good. Put in in a drawer when you don't need it.
No need to sacrifice productivity for convenience or vice versa. Just use the full keyboard of your choice ( I prefer the ergonomic type) and bust out the mini wireless when the situation calls for it.

I think he's considering the price since the keyboard does cost $70 and he is a college student. As for the keyboard with the num-pad. It's really up to you on how often you use the num-pad. Otherwise, I believe they're actually the same size keyboard for the rest of it, just doesn't have the num-pad. Also, Apple now had a wired version of this keyboard as well without the num pad.
As for coding, I actually don't like coding on it too much. I much prefer the ergonomic shaped keyboards for my coding purposes.
This keyboard is very good if you're accustomed to working on a macbook or macbook pro keyboard since it's the same size as the built-in laptop keyboard.

Yeah - I picked this up precisely for the purpose of using it with my MBP while at home, along with a stand and a mouse. It's but a nod to proper ergonomics, but not having my big noggin' bent over a laptop for hours and hours is probably for the best for my long-term spinal alignment.
I had the same dilemma just over a year ago when I got my iMac, in the end I went for the wired keyboard for three reasons.
1. Even though I don't use the numberpad constantly, it's nice to have it around.
2. (Big time lazyness) I don't have to charge it or the mouse.
3. It comes with two USB sockets, one for the wired mouse and one for my iPhone.
Sometimes I think it would be nice to have the wireless keyboard, but more often than not I'm happy with the wired one. In the end I think you'll become accustomed to whichever keyboard you go for.

I have this keyboard and love it. Works great with my MBP. Unless you do a lot of numeric entry or a few specialized programs like Blender, you really won't miss the number pad. The numbers along the top of the keyboard take a few weeks to become second nature and then all is well. If you find you occasionally need to number pad, you can get a decent wired keyboard for $20. Get the nice wireless for now and grab the cheapo later if you need it.
i love this wireless keyboard and i don't even miss the the number pad on the side. However, since bluetooth transmission isn't activated until after the computer is booted to a point, you can't use bluetooth keyboards to troubleshoot (e.g. reset PRAM, invoking the boot menu with the option key.)
and i do concur with 'jwang'... you need to be comfortable with a macbook or macbook pro keyboard....

I've got both keyboards and I'd definitely go with the wired with keypad.
No doubt the little wireless is extremely cool to look at and hold. Using it is another story. It's not just the loss of the keypad that annoys me. You also have to deal with smaller arrow keys, no dedicated page up/page down keys and smaller Control/Command/Option keys. Gotta deal with batteries and connection issues too.
It's not exactly bad, but the big keyboard's much better.
The cord on the wired is pretty long and you get a couple of USB ports to bring along the mouse if you need to stretch out.

I have been using this keyboard everyday for the last year for work -- I love it, personally find the small form factor much more suitable for me then the wired + keypad. Fits on my desk, easy to move, flexible range.
I do agree with @kaykendahl that the arrow keys are smaller and do take some getting used to, but it only took a week or so for me to no longer notice it.
I do find that this keyboard shows stains much more then others (the wired one will suffer from this as well) so you might not want to eat chips before getting to work :)
Overall I vote for the wireless keyboard because of the form factor.

I vote for the wireless, too. I have this one, and I just love how little space it takes up on my desk. Most of the time, I have my Windows computer set up on my desk (with the wireless Logitech diNovo keyboard), but I love it when I get a chance to connect my MacBook and the wireless Apple keyboard. It's so small and it just works!
I have a 15" Macbook Pro and an iMac.
For the Macbook Pro, I use the Wireless keyboard because it is small and easy to move around. I have the wireless mouse set up as well so I can move both the keyboard and mouse off of the desk when I need to do other work and leave my laptop on a stand at the end of the desk.
For the iMac, I stuck with the wired keyboard because it has the numpad AS WELL AS additional USB PORTS! To me the numpad and USB ports are important to have for a main desktop computer, which is why I stuck with this keyboard for the iMac.
I would say it depends mainly on your use for the keyboard. If you are using it for a desktop or family computer, such as an iMac, I would so go wired solely for the benefit of the numpad and usb ports. If you use it for a laptop and have another desktop computer in the house I would say get the wireless because you'll already be used to having no numpad on your laptop and it will be a nice, small accessory to have.

As a touch typist, the lack of a number pad doesn't bother me. Then again, I'm not crunching numbers all day.
In terms of choosing the wireless keyboard over the wired, I'd much rather have the wireless. Using a desk that has a pull out keyboard shelf, it would be difficult to run a cable back behind the desk and back up onto the top shelf where I have my Macbook in closed lid mode. I don't even know if the cable on the wired keyboard would be long enough.
The size and the weight of the wireless keyboard are incredible coming from a clunky compaq keyboard from an old 2002 pc. The build quality is spectacular in terms of how sturdy the keyboard is - my only problem being having to unscrew the end cap to replace the batteries. The keys are not only quieter to press, but it's much more comfortable to type on. The elevation is just right...and there's nothing like leaning back in the office chair at the end of a long day and having the keyboard in your lap halfway across the room to control a movie. The size is perfect for tucking away under a monitor when you're through.

I'd say go wired also, for many of the same reasons stated in this thread. It really sucks when you're keyboard's batteries die late at night and you don't have any extras left.
I would stick with the wired keyboard - the wireless comes at a premium and having the extra practical range really doesn't seem worth the hugh bump in cost.
ugh! I used this keyboard at work and hated it. I love the older Apple white wireless keyboards. Full sized is much better in my opinion. I feel like I am typing on a kids device thats been made smaller for kids to more easily type on.
