After changing my network topology, the Apple TV did not stream audio from my iPad. Videos and pictures streamed just fine, but no music. The iPod player app displayed the AirPlay icon, and I could switch to Apple TV, but the device remained silent.
I found the solution in the Net. You need to reboot the Apple TV by holding down the Menu and Down buttons on your remote until the white light at the Apple TV flashes rapidly. After the reboot, the Apple TV played all media from my iPad just fine.
