PSU is like 220 as well so there's not much headroom for a better graphics card, even though there is half-height PCI-E 16x available. No room for another hard disk either, really but 1TB onboard is nice. Core i3 and W7 feel like a really big step up in speed from the C2D and XP Pro on my old Thinkpad.
A nice machine for like 400 bucks. Included keyboard was nice enough that I actually have been using it over my old MS one. Mouse sucks though.
Discussion about
This is a solid little work desktop. Quiet, compact, not for gaming though (obviously).
I agree. I owned this model for about a week, but had to send it back only because it did not accommodate my surround sound stereo or firewire. For the same price, I wound up with the DX4831, which has a larger footprint, but similar features. I really love the step up to the Core i3 and WU as well as the spacious 1TB hard drive. This is the first time I've stepped up to better computer and didn't feel like I had outgrown it ever before I turned it on. It handles my Photoshop Elements handily and my Zune software is quite agile and responsive now thanks to the fast i3 processor. I also stepped up my memory to 8 GB just to take advantage of the additional speed. One of the best things about the Gateway is how easy it is to open and swap out things like the memory or upgrade the hard drive if you need to, although with 1TB I don't think I'll need to do anything else to this desktop any time soon, unless I decide to upgrade the graphics card. Both the slim SX2850 and larger DX4831 are very good, high-performance, everyday desktops.
