This is a bummer "Lenovo Cans Skylight OS In Favor Of Android, U1 Also Downgraded"
Not such a bummer. It was done well, but ultimately it was a half-assed concept. Neither a truly lightweight notebook, nor really all that usable a tablet.
I much prefer the approach of an 'off-brand' prototype tablet that was recently reported with a Bluetooth keyboard which clips into a recess on the back of the unit, the tablet itself also being equipped with a stand so you can prop it up. And you might as well get a Sony Z11 aside from that if you want a lightweight full notebook too.

I think the hybrid concept is a great one, however i never got my hands on a U1 nor have i seen the full specs. What appealed to me was the idea of working on the laptop, taking the tablet off the base, and continuing work (in a limited fashion, i.e. reading, reviewing) in tablet mode. I personally don't see true utility in a pure tablet.
I am primarily a Windows user (dabbling in Linux from time to time), and I have never really been a Mac fan. The Windows OS is just not made for a tablet (in its current implementation) and I would not want a tablet running Windows. I also think the OSs that are going to be running on tablets are primarily going to be App centric or cloud based.
Basically, I think tablets are consumption devices and adding an external keyboard isn't going to make them productivity devices (because of their OS limitations). I like the concept of the U1 primarily as a laptop running Windows with the convenience and mobility of a tablet, such that the whole is greater then the sum of its parts.

Yeah - this is one of the reasons I thought I'd hold out for Windows Mobile 7 to turn up on tablets before I'm tempted by a 'consumer tablet', although the chances of me acquiring an iPad before the year is out is probably even odds.
