Thinking about buying a Kindle 3G just for the free 3G web browsing... Does anyone have any experience with using the browser and how much lag there is? Thanks.

The browsing experience on the Kindle is too poor for the free 3G to compensate; you'd be frustrated and regretful. Interacting with websites is tough because you have to zoom in to read, typing is slow, and navigating websites is awkward in the era of touchscreens. It's an awesome e-reader, that's about it.

I wouldn't recommend it if you want to use it for browsing. Because of the slow refresh speeds, they can get up to 1 second in untimed observations, making for a frustrating experience. I've rarely ever used the browser on it. Each page needs to be zoomed in to actually read it. The screen is black and white, so forget about pretty colors. Basically an older gen iPod touch would be a more satisfying experience when it comes to browsing than this.

Note: it does not have flash.

I second that. I love my Kindle but as a web browser it is excruciatingly bad. You could probably pay for a year's worth of data plan for your phone for the cost of a 3G Kindle ($189).

Just use mobile versions of sites and it's decent enough. Don't expect going through your email to be a pleasant experience, but it's great for updating facebook and Twitter and reading some Wikipedia.

Thanks for the replies. Basically, what I wanted to know is if the free lifetime 3G made up for the poor browsing experience. Seems not.
